Are you asking me if your mirrors work? Now tuck and pretend you were going 120. Simply put, going 120 takes a tuck that viewing mirrors doesnt lend itself to. Thats all I was getting at, and suggesting that if he didnt see the trooper, high speed including the rider position may have prevented him from looking in his mirrors clearly, including vibration which shakes them pretty good in some cases.

Good to know that somone of Tom's status seeks "relief" from a sport he helped create. A sport now ruled by a single patent.

oh well then, thats a different story. since he wasnt able to see the officer because he was exceeding the speed limit by a ridiculous amount, then the rider clearly isnt at fault.

you are still responsible for knowing what the heck is going on around you, especially if an officer is trying to pull you over, sorry "I was driving so fast it wasnt safe for me to look behind me" is the worst excuse ever.

oops, silly me, I used the word "responsible" in conjunction with someone driving over 100 mph...

I never said that was an excuse, it was a scenario that I suggested may have been the case. I didnt say he wasnt at fault for exceeding the speed limit and not being aware of being chased. I said that it was reasonable to believe that he couldnt see because of his speeding.

And no, it wouldnt be safe to be focusing on your mirrors or even starring out back behind you no matter how rediculously fast you were going, no matter where you are, streets track, and inbetween. Its already known that its not safe to go rediculoulsy fast too. I was adding on to that principle .

100 and responsible is somthing you say on a race track there buddy.

          1. It isn't compareing Apples to Oranges. In both cases a felony was committed.
Act and intent: the elements of a crime. There was no violent act involved here and the act does not appear to have any harm intended. Also, felony speeding is not comparable to armed robbery, in that a speed limit is an arbitrary thing, whereas robbery is innately immoral.
          2. Their have been plenty of cases where innocent people have been killed in motorcycle crashs or as a result of reckless people on motorcycles.
          That's a real stretch.

Too bad for the cop's family.

Most felony murder laws need to be rewritten anyway

I question the judgement of any cop who attempts decides to chase a speeder, in a large suv, instead of responding to his original call. That's why you have a radio....

Most states define the underlying felonies which can predicate a finding under the felony murder rule. Usually they are violent felonies such as rape, robbery, arson, etc. In PA at least, that would not constitute felony murder. I'm unfamiliar with the law of whatever jurisdiction that event occurred in, however, there must also be a close causal connection between the felony and the death. May I suggest reading the statute that would apply?
