Right now AMD is the better deal clock speeds mean nothing because Intel made a huge mistake by making a long pipeline, the branch prediction scheme, and their cacheing scheme. I can explain further if anyone wants me to but overall untill Conroe debuts AMD rules the pack, the P4 and the Pentium D were both steps in the wrong direction. But even when Conroe debuts the performance gain probably won't be very noticeable, and maybe by then AMD will make a new platform revison for the AM2 cores or atleast announce one.

Actually, while AMD is arguably the better overall performer, they have absolutely nothing that beats the price/performance ratio of that intel processor right now. It is really quite easy to overclock as well, as all the motherboards around will support 200 mhz fsb. Generally, when people overclock things, they are overclocking the motherboard and memory as well as the processor, but to get that processor running at 4 ghz (200 mhz fsb x20 multiplier), you are only overclocking the processor. That being said, if you are going to get a new computer soon, wait for the new conroe core chips to come out. Its really the first time in about 4 years that processors will be making a large jump in performance.
