Well pretty scary thought, I heard a doctor on the raido today talking about it. He said that its not a matter of 'if' but 'when'. Personally, im not so sure, but if it does we have our own well and septic and generators and all those type things so...I think me and my family would be fine. Again, I dont know how I feel about this. My parents are going to stock up on supplies just in case though; cause supposedly nothing will run and there wont be any food coming in or gas etc... What do you guys think about it?

My dad and I have actually started to logically get things ready. (I live on about 10 acres and my neighbors are about another 5 away) So i have lots of room for hunting but we are stocking up on canned foods and water. Also he got about 700pair of particulate masks if we have to go out in public and such. and he bought a couple other firearms in case by chance they have to be used.

this is a serious threat and I am very happy for once that i live out in BFE.

Well the 'not if but when' statement is true, its also being blown up. Yes, history says we are due for a pandemic flu outbreak. It could be this year, it could be in 20 years. It could be severe (15% total world population mortality) with 3rd world countries taking the brunt of it. The USA with or without specific medicines for the avian flu strain will have a large number affected, but far fewer will die. But it would spread fast enough to estimate that 25% of any workforce would be affected either directly (at home sick for 2 weeks or so) or indirectly (family member needing care) so health and economy would be stunted.

Most of the hype is media titilation. Remember Ebola virus. Remember monkeypox (carried by prairiedogs) remember El Nino (weather pattern). Most of the commotion is media getting bored and finding a new draw to get viewers.

So yeah, you can stock up, and its never a bad idea to make a family plan for different emergency situations, but its mostly BS fearmongering. You can only talk about fuel prices and war/conflicts for so long when it comes to the media.

Relax, have some tea or a beer.

I dont get what the big deal is about avian flu. You get it from handling poultry and eating poorly cooked poultry. The reason they always have outbreaks in those crazy Asian countries is because they sell you live chickens to kill instead of chicken carcasses, then they dont cook it well.

well theyre afraid this certain strain of the flu will mutate and become able to spread human to human through sneezing, hand shakes, etc...

well, I know its sounds bad, but when that thing blows through Asia with a medieval vengeance I bet it will knock China's dreams of being the new number one superpower back quite a few notches. Can you imagine the effect it will have on China's population and economy?
