yeah, no possible way it could happen...

Sit back, relax, nothin bad can happen.

I love how history is so readily forgotten. It's like it didn't exist before the day you were born or something...

My bet is for the most part, you'll never hear the true extent of the massive devastation. same goes for North Korea and a few of the mid East countries.

I heard that the Avian Flu only hits Democrats. And that the only way to get over it is with a warm bowl of chiken noodle soup and some sprite.

Anyone remember the vicious SARS and MadCow outbreaks.

            Sorry, I'm old

              /Chortle

Hehe, yup. They all have a POTENTIAL to cause some mass damage one way or another. They have small risks of happening as well. Guess what, everything can't be predicted either. Right now my coworkers are up to their eyesballs in guess what. F'ing MUMPS! Of all things MUMPS, a problem from 50 years ago. With the USA known to be immunized against its effects for YEARS. Out of nowhere it pops up with a bunch of older teens and college age kids getting it. Its mostly a nuisance like mono or something. But who would have predicted a mumps outbreak?

So you can plan for whatever you want. In all likelyhood SOMETHING bad on a large scale will happen in your lifetime. But don't waste too much time and energy as a regular everyday Joe worrying about anything specific. You have a much better chance being hit by a drunk driver or getting cancer anyways.

                Bird flu=Y2K

Its just stupid and over hyped, so people have something to worry about and start buying crap. Stocking up nf food, gas, etc, so stupid.

America just wants something to worry about and the media wants something to give them. Its crazy, its hard to just get the bird flu... not just from bird flyings. First a bird has to be infected of course, and then you actually have to come in contact with some of the birds fluids. Cook your chicken and live a happy life.

You want to know a real epidemic? All the stupid people who are allowed to walk the streets, and all the people who live off welfare because there to lazy to get a job.

No one is worried about getting the bird flu from birds. If every bird in the world became infected not much would happen. They're worried about the virus mutating into a form that can spread from person to person...

It could be severe (15% total world population mortality) with 3rd world countries taking the brunt of it. The USA with or without specific medicines for the avian flu strain will have a large number affected, but far fewer will die. But it would spread fast enough to estimate that 25% of any workforce would be affected either directly (at home sick for 2 weeks or so) or indirectly (family member needing care) so health and economy would be stunted.

Most of the hype is media titilation. Remember Ebola virus. Remember monkeypox (carried by prairiedogs) remember El Nino (weather pattern). Most of the commotion is media getting bored and finding a new draw to get viewers.

So yeah, you can stock up, and its never a bad idea to make a family plan for different emergency situations, but its mostly BS fearmongering. You can only talk about fuel prices and war/conflicts for so long when it comes to the media.

Relax, have some tea or a beer.

                              Look on the bright side.

There would probably be a huge firesale of condos and retirement homes in sunny Florida and Tempe Arizona. Bargain estate sale prices.

Think of how well the economy could recover if >60% of retirement age folk just stopped drawing on social security and pension plans!
