My grandfather was too young for WWII, he joined the air force two years after the war ended. Some of his stuff came from friends who brought it back, most of it he bought or was bought for him.Originally posted by TheAngryDrunkenRussianAnd if they were collected by your gramps from WWII its a piece of your family history.
My fathers side of the family managed to get out of WWI too. My great grandfather joined the Air Force and was trained as a rear gunner on a 2 seater plane. By the time he got to Europe the war was a couple weeks from ending. By the time they got him in a plane it was over.
Vietnam & North Korea my fathers and his brothers were too young.
And that's as far back as I know of my family history. It kind of dead ends with my great grandfather. My grandfather wouldn't talk about any history before that and whatever he knew and didn't want to share died with him.

The rifle isn't worth a fortune I havn't inspected it I'm going on what I'm being told but I'm thinking it would be in the $500s if I sold it which I won't.Originally posted by behemothSo are mausers, PyRo.
The vaulable Mauser which I believe was a C96 complete with the matching stock vanished. Even if we had it my grandfather never had a pistol license or registered it so it could probably never be legally owned or sold.

That's where he got everything. He went all over the Northeast and even made a few trips to Canada. At one point he obtained a heavy Nambu machine gun in the crate from WWII. I guess someone managed to sneak it back in a footlocker or somthing. I know he got rid of it pretty quickly when he found out what kind of trouble he could get in for having it.Originally posted by behemothGunshows...

When he got divorsed my grandmother called the police and told them about the guns. They went through and took every pistol he owned. I'm not sure exactly what he had at that point but he pretty much stopped buying pistols after that with just a few later aquisitions. The old colt which comes from a family member, the Mauser, a Luger, and a really cheap revolver. I found the revolver loaded in the bottom drawer of a dresser in a guest bedroom. They had it there when my sister and I were younger, and my cousins (12& 13 yrs old) were playing in the house the day before actually searching for that gun. He wasn't too big into gun saftey apparently. No one wanted anything to do with it since it was a junk gun with no family history and had no papers so it got turned in.

Agreed.. but i can see your point too.Originally posted by HexisIt's a lil weird to be so excited IMHO. Nazi paraphernalia is pretty creepy.Comment

Why is it creepy? If something came out of Auschwitz where people were being systematically massacured it would be creepy. Something from the German army where most of the people were just young men fighting for what they believed to be the best interestest of their country (not because they hated Jews) isn't.Originally posted by SpitFire1299Agreed.. but i can see your point too.Last edited by PyRo; 06-26-2006, 12:49 AM.

Saying that Hitler was a Genius. In fact he was, totally crazy yes he was. I've read the translation (sry don't know german) of My Struggle - Hilter. Some very interesting points but thats it. Enstein was a Genius (Spliting of the atom) but was a little less crazy.
Other facts of Nazi History:
Smoking ban: public places and Pregent women is Illegel
Cancer from smoking was found by Nazi scientists later (10yrs) found out by American scientists.
The Advance of Rocketry which fueled the NASA Space Program.
He drove a demoralitized nation out of poverty.
The world's nations militarys around the world learned what happens when they are not maintained. (Why do you think the US military is always on the act of mobilazition and constant readiness.)
Introducted New Military Tactics never even heard of.
Manufacturing technology was improved.
Bad Ideas:
Military was way to over streched and never finished off his first objective before starting another Russia.
Total Gun control (bad Idea IMO, to better understand the gun is to better understand history -Tales of the Gun, History Channel)
World Domination. Like thats going to happen.
Massacuring millions of Jewish population hey lets kill all of our doctors, scientist, and scholars Great Idea.
Hilter was a smart man though his actions where just retarded.Comment

forgot about that. thanksto add to your list, he helped in the auto industry with VW
Also the Auto bahn which I heard is still pretty fun.
I'm still thinking that going up against Russia itself is almost impossable. And everybody knows that Defender has its advantages
Russia is just so massive as a country itself controling ALL of it is a task
The french captured Moscow once the Czar burned it down to the ground once in the middle of winter and if the germans captured it they wouldn't hesitate to do that again.
All those partaisons destroyied German logistics.
the distance between the Polish border and Moscow is one helluva trek enough to hold the Germans off till Russia's greatest ally arrived. Winter. Russian winters stop everything. And problably would stop the modren US military to if we ever tried.Comment

I'm not sure why Hitlar attacked Russia but most likely it was because he was doing so well he thought he was invincible. It's not a common occurance for one side to win a bunch of battles, come to the conclusion that God is on their side and pull somthing stupid.
Look at the Civil War, Lee made it to Pensylvania. Then what does he do, makes a little mistake now known as Pickets Charge. He charged his entire army across two miles of open ground where the Union army was behind a wall. They never stood a chance, all the generals there knew it but Lee persisted they would do it. He had been so sucessful he believed his troops would and could do anything he asked of them. Had he not done that he may have been able to attack Washington.
Look what Custer did. He instead of waiting for re-enforcements he attacked or was provoked into battle with a force much larger then his own.
Hitlar was a good politition, that's about it. Eurpoe was taken over by his advisors and generals who were smart. When Hitlar decided Germany was invincible they started to fall.

1. Russian front: you guys are correct, largest mistake
2. Rommel: you can't ruin a good officer for disagreeing with you
3. Dunkirk: big emotional win for the allies, bad communication for the Axis
