Well I am joining the UOTC when I am in University, so I can get the training whilst doing my corse, then I am hopefully moving into the armed response unit or riot squad of the police because you get more hands on action, and thats what I like.
p.s. My girl friend is going into the RAF for sure, next year she joins I think.

There's nothing wrong with service in the Coast Guard. They do plenty of port security and coastal patrols. Not to mention the rescue services! I considered going from Army to Coast Guard (Air-Sea Rescue) but the USCG drops you to E-3 (or used to) so I decided against it.

As of yesterday, I am now a MIDN 4/C in the Navy. I'll be going through training for four years during college (NROTC) and at the end pick up a comission as an Ensign. SWO probably, I could never go sub. Maybe fast attack, but definitely not a boomer. I am so excited not only for my training during the year, but for summer cruises. Man o man I cannot wait! The first summer is gonna be a blast. I'm going with the marins for a week, on a sub for a week, on a surface warfare ship (frigate, destroyer, cruiser, career) for a week, then aviation for a week.

Yeah, you say you are excitied fro the summer cruises-that is one thing I definetly DON'T miss. 'Midi's' as we called you are always a pain in the *** even when you try not to, simply by being there and therefor in the way.

Mind you I heard a story from about a security drill on a boomer during a Midi cruise where the Midi's where the bad guys-and didn't know until they were captured....

they do more hostile boat boardings than anyone, period. And frankly that earns a billy badass card any day of the week.

Gee lol, I'm sorry we have to have some training and experience before we go into the fleet to perform a demanding job. I'm sure it would be more convenient for you if they just saddled you with Ensigns that didn't know port from starboard. A chief who thinks he's better than the JO's over him is no better than a JO that thinks who the hell he is. Both have a bad attitude. I'm not trying to be a hardass, just sayin. I'll look out for the grouchy people who think the Midi's are simply annoyances rather than young men and women training to be leaders. Thanks for the warning.

Once upon a time I was a bad boy. They giveth me rank and they taketh away. Seems the Marine Corps frowns on drunk and disorderly when there is routine bloodshed. The funny how whole thing stated in a tavern, go figure.

I was in the Army for 6 years, E-5. Also in the Navy for 6 years, also E-5. Guess that makes me a career E-10
WOW, sigs. Havent seen these in a while here on AO.

                              Former 19-D, E-4.

hooowaa to fellow Scout. The real deal first in, last out.

Yep, same reason I went Scout. That, and I went in right after Shield and right before Storm; signing bonuses were hefty.

You do your OSUT at Knox?

Darn, we have a lot of 19D's on AO! I was 19D from 1986 (during the confrontation with Libya) through 1994 (after the Gulf War). Air Cav/Air Assault though, avoided the tracks at all costs!
