    Cool. Was just reading it.
this is the big one. Showes you how much I know, the guys just said it was a good one.

The Model 870 Express Super Magnum Synthetic 28" barrel.

No wonder they liked it. Would this explain why some of you thought it was a bit much?

299 is a little high for the basic 870, is it chambered for 3.5 inch shells? those are a little more expensive. 870's are excellent guns, you will love it. kinda like the mags of teh shotgun world..not the fastest but will always work.

since its super magnum it is the 3.5" one, the express which is a lot cheaper is the 3" one. Thats also what i love bout my nova is that its 3.5"

I just want this stuff gone, super low prices

Well, just because it can shoot magnum shells, does not mean that you have to. Its just nice to be able to when you want to.
WOW, sigs. Havent seen these in a while here on AO.

Atlantic has them for a good price, though I haven't inquired to see if they are actually in stock or just on order. I'd want the pistol grip and folding stock, but wood furniture sure would be nice if it is (?) available. SBS is nifty but not required.

I was looking at the r3 recoil pad...

                            any input?

                              Hey Moe,
That gun is an excellent shotgun for the price. Earlier I was going to ask if it was the express super magnum because that's what I was guessing from that price. Anyways, for some reason I thought that model already came with the r3 pad, but then I went and looked at mine and I guess it doesn't have it. Anyways, the r3 does help with recoil, but once you learn to get the shotgun in the right groove in your shoulder and go shooting it a few times then you'll be fine.

As far as chokes are concerned, for skeet and any sort of bird hunting (besides turkey) I use the full choke. For hunting then it's a tossup between the improved & modified.. depends on what load I'm using and which I feel works better from firing a test pattern. Anyways, they make an inexpensive choke kit which has 2 or 3 chokes in it by remington for the 870 which I believe you can even get at Walmart. (*gasp*.. i just said that... I prefer giving business to my local gun shop but if they don't have it, here in the country I have seen the remington 870 choke kit at walmart for cheap). Anyways, that shotgun will last you a long time as long as you take good care of it.

Dry it out good after each time using it in moist conditions/rain. When you store it, get a bunch of those Silica packets (usually found in shoe boxes) and put them in the gun case with it... it will pull the moisture away from the gun and keep it from rusting. (You should put those things in all firearm cases... pistols, shotguns, rifles..etc).

Anyways, I would have someone help show you how to shoulder the shotgun properly after the soreness goes away in the shoulder. Make sure to hold it tight in there. It only takes letting it get loose or out of position ONE time for it to smack you good and leave you sore. Once you learn to shoulder it, then you can choose whether or not you want that R3 pad. Personally I don't like the r3's that much.. it feels like the shotgun moves too much with each shot when using it because of the extra padding.

Nevertheless, best of luck and always practice safety when using that shotgun. It will definitely serve you well for a long time to come.

Sore arm syndrome seems kinda common with the 870. I have an 870 Express Mag 12 gauge. I was out shooting it yesterday, and shot right around 250+ rounds. My shoulder is purple. I really need to invest in a shooting vest.
