    Falling asleep...

I've had days when I've been really tired and had a hard time keeping my eyes open.

I've been on conference calls and dozed off only to snap to and wonder if I snorted. Is my phone muted?

I've even been in meetings with other people and found my eyelids closing for extended periods of time.

And, of course, there are the times when I've driven a little longer than I should have and struggled to keep both eyes on the road.

But today I experienced something that was a new one to me. I was waiting in line at a local burrito shop and decided to close...my...eyes. HUH? WHA? Oh yeah, I'll take chicken tacos to go, one corn, one berry, and one pico. Sour cream, cheese, and lettuce. Thanks.

    CRAP!

Has anyone else had one of these things happen? I don't think I actually fell asleep. I just was really close.

I don't have narcolepsy...I just get really ti..... HUH? WHA?

If you think you're getting enough sleep, I would seriously go get tested for sleep apnea...

I've had an uncle and one of my parents friends have it...

The amount of sleep I get has to do with it. But the reason I'm not getting sleep certainly isn't porn-related.

I've been having the same problems. I find myself falling asleep in class. I keep wodnering how long I was out for. I get really scared when I actually snap back up and feel all refreshed and awake lol. It's probably because I've been working into the wee hours of the night and that I have to get up at 5:30am some mornings for PT. But hey, when I'm an officer on a ship, I'm gonna have to be used to getting 2-3 hours of sleep.

Yeah, you'll get used to it. I'm a civilian, but I spend most of my days in a submarine with the Navy dudes. Everyone is tired, but nobody falls asleep. It's not acceptable, so you don't do it.

You should learn to stop thinking that 0530 is a hard time to get up. You'll be working so many odd shifts and you'll need to sleep when you have the opportunity. It can be tough when your so used to sleeping at night. Getting up at 0530 isn't bad at all.

I used to never sleep, and that used to happen to me all the time. It was a pain in the ***.

Solution for me at least was to get more sleep

I read a study where they basically put lab mice on treadmills that were spinning to keep them from falling asleep, and had monitors on their brains. After a certain level of fatigue, the mice would fall asleep for milliseconds between steps.

Whenever I'm seriously fatigued, I "micronap". This is pretty dangerous because it gets incrementally worse and you don't really have much control of when/where i.e. driving.

A lot of people think they're getting enough sleep, but you definitely aren't. You've probably just gotten to the point where you think your fatigue level is normal.

I work nights. Once in a while for what ever reason I don't get enough sleep. Usually it's at least 3 nights ( or days ) in a row where I get less then 5 hours of sleep. It may not sound like much and I hardly notice it until the 3rd night and I'll be at work driving my little forklift around and I'll yawn great big, pull over and lean my head against the mast. I never know how long I'm out but it scares the crap outta me. Mind you this is a standing lift too so I can sorta feel your dilemma. Try Tylenol PM, half pill doses. I use it when I know it's going to be a long week of 4-5hours a night. For whatever reason I feel more rested in the morning.
