    FJ's VS. Jeep's

Well, my friend has a FJ-40 which has been restored with a V-8 and perhaps a slight lift. Other than that, I believe it to be stock. She claims it to be better then a similar CJ. She also says her FJ cruiser is better than my Wrangler Unlimited. She tells me the CJ's chassis were tiny and weak components( i think shes getting this from her dad haha). She says by the time my Jeep is as old as the FJ it wont be worth *explicative*. So, AO, which is better and why? Just any info you can give me? In terms of better were talking about off road competence and just generally tougher. Not MPG etc...
FJ40 or CJ-# / FJ Cruiser or Wrangler Unlimited
    Thanks guys.

This is just one opinion based on another. The old FJ's were awesome. My brother in law is in the process of restoring one and the things are beasts. He has a small block covered with edelbrock under the hood and it's lifted like crazy but makes a great mudding & hunting truck.

I also have a couple friends with Jeeps/cj's. Those are cool as well, but there's just something about the look of the old FJ's that I like. On top of that, the older FJ's are getting harder and harder to get your hands on and I know their value has gone up a good bit because of this.

Now that they started making those new FJ's I don't know what it will do to the price of the old ones.. but I think the new FJ's look like dogcrap. Looks like they took a jonboat, turned it upside down, and welded it to the top to create a roof. In my opinion they tried to hard to add in new design elements while still trying to give it a retro look. I think the result was terrible.. they should have gone with a completely new design and called it something else or just completely went retro and made it look like the old ones.
There's my rant.. I'd take an old FJ but that's not saying it is the best thing on earth.

When you start getting that old it doesn't really matter which was better. Most FJ's just as most CJ's you find now need a good bit of work and most non of them are stock. I would love to have an old FJ, but parts are easier to come by for the CJs.

As for which is better a 30 year old FJ or a 5 year old TJ, it would depend. Are both stock? (I doubt the FJ would be any more). I would take coils over leafs any day (for on and off road) so the TJ would win in the suspension. The I6 4.0 is a bullet proof engine, most FJ's have been replaced by now, so that is a toss up. You can get anything under the sun for a TJ, the FJ is limited or you have to make things fit.

So in the end. I would take a TJ over an FJ is I wanted a semi-reliable daily driver and a base to build a killer wheeling rig. If I wanted a piece of history, I would get an old FJ.

You are arguing with a woman over something that is a matter of opinion. There is little doubt that a new Wrangler rides better on road and is more comfortable than an old CJ, Land Cruiser, International Scout, etc. For instance, ask her how her AC works. Off roadability, well that really depends as much on driver and modifications as it does stock form.

Don't argue with women, you cannot win, regardless of how right you are.
