Question for antique gun collectors

Right now I've got a WWII era Japanese rifle sitting in my room. Whose it was, and how it got here I don't know. All I know it that my grandmother somehow got it.

It never really dawned on me that it might be worth something until now.

The batteries on my camera just died, so I'll try and describe it as best I can.

-It's bolt action.
-Very long and heavy
-it doesn't have a telescoping sight (did any in WWII?), but it has a complex looking sighting system. A sight flips upward, and it has a little adjuster that slides ups and down (not a very good description, I know).

I'll try and get a picture.

So, do any of you know how much rifles of this vintage are worth?

There are some characters on top of the breech area, and then a symbol on the side of it.

Go hunt around online for WWII Japanese rifles. You'll find a picture of something that matches.
Typically WWII surplus guns aren't very valuable unless you have a nice example of a more uncommon weapon.

As for telescopic sights they had those as far back as the Civil War.

If the symbol is of a flower, it could be worth something. That would would be a Type 99 made before they were simplified for cheap, mass production. That flower is the Emperor's seal.

And yes telescopic sights date back into the first half of the 1800's.
