Take Steel up on this offer dude.
Something similar happened to my Parents. One of my Sisters did something like this to them. Wiped them out practicaly. However, saddly, they refused to file Fraud claims. They lost a lot. They went from owning two homes and 65 Acre farm to owing money on a house and car and having barely enought to live off of. All in thier retirement years too.
I eventualy helped them out of the mess and cosigned for them, bargained with Credit card companies (because they would not file fraud) and refinanced things and even gave them money... did some financial wrangling within what I could do without charging her. It was against my wishes to do so but they refused to turn in their own daughter.
So, strangly enough, after much work and effort fixing it, I ended up the estranged family member for being the bad guy for wanting her but in jail and for having to get tough with her and them and controlling thier finances for a while to prevent any furhter damage. They resented it. They hardly speak to me and I hear little for them.
To this day I suspect she is still stealing from them. However... I am out of it. My father past away this last spring so he is now rid of it. But guess who paid most of the funeral expenses?... yep... me... But I fear my mother is still in danger from her. Family.... can't chose em I guess...
My advice is to not do what they did and forgive them without making them take responsibilty. Get them out of your life and let them pay the price. Don't pay it yourself. File charges. You don't owe them a dam thing.
