generaly what me and my friend do is when we get to the gym do 1/2mile on tredmil then work eather upper or lower body depending on what we did last time. then by the end of it all we do 50-100lb presses and 30-40lb military presses.

my bad. For some reason I though he was asking for leg routines. and yes, freeweights rule, save cables for very end of your workouts.

I've started doing 20-30 minutes on an elliptical trainer 4-5 days a week. I can already tell the difference in my cardio.

            Go pick up some books.

The one I'm reading now is "The New Rules of Weightlifting" written by Lou Schuler and Alwyn Cosgrove.

These guys are pretty amazing. But
Don't just read one book. You need different viewpoints. The last thing you want to do is go into a gym and not know what you're doing.
You'll waste your time thinking you're getting results when you're not. There is so much to learn about weightlifting.
And I wouldn't take advice from a lot of people on here. Do some research, just not on the internet.
The very existence of flamethrowers proves that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves. 'You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
