    Disturbed Washburn Maya Guitar. $300?!?

Well, first off, I'm just starting off into guitars. Ive played lots of other instruments, and after picking up a guitar, i really enjoyed playing it.

My question is, how good is the quality of the disturbed Washburn Maya Guitar? I know only a little about guitars but i though Washburns were usually around 700 and up?

I use a nice older style Washburn Guitar with a Hum-single-Hum pickup array. That guitar will definately grind and shred with the dual humbucker array if that is your thing. If you plan on playing softer, crisper music... try getting something with a single coil in the mix. I'd honestly reccomend picking up that model AND a standard fender strat for a different sound. Trying to buy one guitar to cover all the sounds is not a good move... as its all comprimises.

Stick with that style bridge... although it lacks the tremelo (whammy bar) or floyd rose setup... it will be way easier to tune, string, and tinker with.

Washburn makes EXELLENT accoustics ($1000+), great Basses, and very good Electrics. Tons better than that squire or epiphone crap, and right on par with fender. Unless you start looking at Gibson's and other $1000 guitars - that will compete with anything.

Never overlook a good amplifyer. The little practice amps work... but tend to distort quaity when turned up high. Find a nice sized one with a solid state effects processor if at all doable. A good rule of thumb... an amp should run about the same cost as the guitar. As the guitar quility goes up, a good amp will let that guitar show what it's got. Buying a $1000 guitar and running a $50 amp will sound worse than a $100 guitar on a $500amp.

Also, I reccomend buying guitars in person... not on the internet "deal site". You should always chack for intonation, warping of the nec, correct neck curvature, fret wear, and feel. The larger the fret size, the easier it will be to play for a beginner.

And never forget to buy a nice pack of medium/heavy dunlop resin picks
(I like to sharpen mine to a near point before using them)

Yeah there may be good deals on the internet for guitars but its usually because they are selling them on the internet and knows nobody is going to be able to play it and feel it before they get it. I got screwed on one guitar I bought over the internet where I got it and the neck was warped and it took me forever to straighten that crap out. Support your local music shops and dont buy the first thing you pick up. Shop around, a lot.

Yeah... I was lucky. My second guitar was a satin purple Fender Mexican Strat for $200 New in Box. The only thing that needed done to it was the intonation was adjusted and added a bit of curve to the neck.

looks cheap to me. Never tried one though. Most 'limited edition' guitars that don't cost a lot of money are kind of lousy. The graphics usually look pretty bad in person too. It's just a ploy to get kids to buy them because they think it's cool.
