easily, I play hard. I had a pair of wood tip standard 2B VICs and they broke within the same day that I bought them. Mabe they were a bad pair? I like Pro marks and the fatback 3A vater sticks, I might just stick w/ those. Thanks for the help guys. -
BTW I got to try out the AHEAD sticks at rehearsal today, they suck bawlz. The cymbals dont sing like wood tipped sticks would make them do. They sound nice on the toms, but other than that, hats, ride, chanas, crashes all sounded like crap. so thankjs again, and Im sticking w/ my vaters.

You're right. I listen to more Dre than Em, and just goofed that one i guess.Originally posted by PumpPlayerFrom "Guilty Conscience," third verse. Plus Eminem said the line and it was his album. Not that it matters.
What am I saying? Shoot 'em both, Brady, where's your gun at?

From my findings, there's no durrability difference between the two. Think about it. The wood that makes up the tip of a wood tipped stick isn't connected to the rest of the stick except in the same part that a nylon tipped stick is connected to. The only difference is the fact that one is shaped and the other glued.Originally posted by MuzikmanThere is no good reason to use nylon tips and they are much weaker than an all wood stick.
And there is a good reason to use a nylon tipped stick. More drum definition and cymbal definition. You're not going to get the same effect playing harder with wood tips.
Aheads suck. They're hollow aluminum and break when you do rimshots.
Don, I think you seriously need to brush up on your technique if you're going through sticks that fast. Let me ask you a question, do you have cracked cymbals? I know I play really hard sometimes and I don't even go through sticks that fast.
Oh, and I didn't know there were this many drummers on AO! We should post pics of our sets to oogle at.

All three of my kits are in storage. No place to set them up any more. So, unless I can dig up an old pic..no photos here.
Having played for close to 20 years I have played all styles, sizes, brands of sticks. I still stick to my theory of cheap wood sticks.

Don, I'm not going to tell you how to play but I would encourage you not to go in for fads. Be a percussionist, not a drummer, if you get my drift.
This picture is terrible but it's the only one I have right now. This is the set as I got it and I've cleaned it up and refinished some of the worn spots.

It's just what I'm playing on now. It's a '73 Slingerland 3-piece in blue sparkle, 13", 16", 22". Right now I've got it set up with a Sling. 10-lug "Krupa" 6" COB snare and a set of beautiful sounding '70s Zildjians. I've also got pictures of individual snares and my other gear, but they're pretty boring so I won't bother.
My last set was an early '80s Ludwig set that was WAY too big for my taste. 32" bass, 20" floor tom with 3 mounted toms sized 13", 14" and 16" on freestanding TAMA hardware. Beautiful set and it sounded great but darn it was way too huge for me. I just had nowhere to keep it.
I'll get another set in a few years and I'm seriously considering buying a new one. Maryland Drum Co. isn't that far away and I want to visit the factory and have a look. I really like their gear from the few sets I've heard and played and I want to check out some of their bop kits. Before: "You're playing with WHAT?"
After: "Crap! It's that guy with the pump!"Comment
