    Video Editing software?

Ok so i started messing around with some video editing, i have windows movie maker so ive been playing around with that..my only complaint is..i can't (or dont know how to) change the length of the clips..can someone tell me how to shorten clips so i can take certain pieces out? Are there any programs out there that put the whole movie like its a strip so you can go in and cut the peices you want? (make sense?)

    Anyway thanks for any advice...

At my school, we have FINAL CUT PRO. It has what your talking about w/ the strip of the whole movie being displayed out on the screen. then it lets you shorten and lengthen clips with ease, and is really good. The problem is, unless you've got 4000$ to buy the FINAL CUT adition, not the pro one, your not getting it. Our school bought FINAL CUT PRO for $5000, including the master volume licence in the price. So if your willing to drop 4 grand on some kick arse video editing software (fits your discription) then FINAL CUT is for you.

You can get Adobe Premiere for the PC. Try and get some more opinions though. I haven't dabbled with video in a couple of years.

            i run FCP for work

            its Apple only
and its not nearly as expensive as DM states
a seat for Studio is 1300 bucks
Final Cut Pro is packed with powerful intelligence features, making pro-quality video creation and editing easy on your Mac and iPad.

            FC express is 300 bucks

you could prolly do what you want with iMovie
but you would need a mac

on a PC adobe Premier Elements should do the trick:

I've used FinalCutPro in College and so far it's the best I've used so far. Unfortunately it is way expensive. I haven't found anything out there I liked as much. Good luck on your search tho. I'm still looking.

I've also had good luck with Premier. I believe the trial is 30 days or so, more than enough to let you test it and make a decision.

I am a Windows user and I use Sony Vegas and its really awesome. It does everything and more. There are different Layers so you can put different sound over the video. Also the plug-ins you can get are really cool.

on a PC, you're pretty much SOL in my opinion. Final Cut and iMovie are great if you can get ahold of a mac.

On PC, either Adobe Premier (which can handle basic stuff quite well) or Avid Xpress .

Half the price of premiere and MUCH easier to learn with most any feature you'll need.

Cool...I was wondering how people thought about the Vegas Video package. The software that came with my Sony dvdcamcorder sucks butt! I saw Fry's has it on sale right now for under $100. The plugins or addons, are those freely downloadable or do you have to purchase those seperately?

you can find some Freely Downloadable But a lot of the reaaally good ones you have to pay for. I bought the water one and it looks like real water. The Lightning one is my favorite. I have an Black jedi Costume and I had a lot of fun with and the Lightning Effect.
