AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
The replies are good -- But I do have several things to now add. I just drove both yesterday.....
I confirm the following:
Lexus - Better quality in fit/finish materials - no surprise. But not a HUGE difference. Lexus tranny - good for a slushbox - but left me feeling disconnected from the motor. Rear seat - not nearly as good as the Acura in terms of space. Brakes Equal to Acura. I do miss the rear drive -- I've been driving a front driver for 9 years. Styling - Both cars need wheel/rubber upgrades. But Acura has a very nice factory 18" perf wheel pkg available. MOTOR - the lexus ROCKS in this dept. Feels like a solid 13 second car in qtr. Hit the gas and hold on -- I can bracket race this thing - lol.
Handling - sucky -- Why is this billed as the performance version when she can't hold a turn. Really disappointed here. Razon sharp steering on a car that pushes the apex worse than any front drive car I've driven. Wierd. BTW - I always have upgraded cars in the past -- at this point in my life at 40 yrs old - I'm done with that. Wheels and tires are it for that category, so the Lexus's sub par handling hurts my opinion of it. But for staight line fun - HOLY COW.
The Acura - Say what you want about the Honda thing - but they know how to make a fun car ! Tranny - KILLER - Clutch smooth consistant take up's. Motor strong, not the rocket compared to Lexus - but waaay more entertaining. The VTEC howl is music. Interior design is more my liking as well. Great trunk space for Paintball gear. But the one thing that blew me away was this -- HANDLING is better than lexus in almost every way. Doesn't feel like a front driver until you nail the gas in a turn. Makes my Pontiac GTP feel like crap in this dept. The Type S is considerably better than the '05 TL I drove last. This car feels like a tuner car - The IS feels like a fast factory car -- its the only way I can describe it. If the Acura had rear drive - I'd say it was perfect.
The power thing is the only one thing that keeps me from killing the lexus totally. But when the cost factor is put into the equation -- The Acura has the clear advantage. By 5G's . I can play with a cold air kit and computer tinkering (an easy thing to do) to raise the HP to 300 in about one hour. But the Lexus needs a suspension. And that takes more effort than I want to invest. Plus it may end up being too harsh for my liking. Then I'll be pissed.
So I'll be doing this probably by the Fall -- I usually take time to make a final decision - so maybe Lexus will put REAL handing into the IS . And a manual would probably do it for me. I'll have to wait a little while to see.

HLD...
Have you looked at Audi A4/A6 as well? Also... the Infinti G35 is a better driver's car than the Lexus.
I've looked at the Audi's and I love them all. But the performance versions of the A4 would be the S4, and she's a little too pricey. Great car though. Would be a choice after the Lexus/Acura gets traded in - lol.
