Trying to find out if paintball pants are a viable alternative... the two appear to be very similar except snowboard pants have an extra liner. I guess the goal is to keep moisture out...

they will work quite well. i just got back from a ski trip to wisconsin and my proto pants served me well.

I used to use my snowboard pants for paintballing, but then they ripped in the knees(alot...) and I had to get paintball pants. If I tried using my paintball pants for snowboarding, I'd probably soak them through. Just buy some cheap snowboard pants. You can get warm ones for around $30, water-resistant too.you know you play this game too much when the neighbors stop fixing their broken windows...
