Ah well. I was looking at those but I was at the gun store and they had just got my rifle so I was looking at what scopes they had and they had that one for a good price. I just wanted to have my rifle so I could go shoot it that day.

    impatient

    Thanks though!

    break in?

I'd heard where guys put polish on there rounds to smooth out tooling marks?

I dare you to find a world class benchrest shooter that doesn't break in his new barrels.

What you are doing, is removing the small burrs and steel bits left over from the rifling process, and removing the jacket material from the high pressure proof rounds fired at the factory. This will leave the rifling clear of debris and obtrusions:

Shoot one, quick scrub with bronze brush and wipe clean with patches. Do this for 10 shots.

Shoot 5, repeat cleaning. Do this for 3 sets of 5 rounds.

Heavy scrubbing with a bronze brush and lots of CLP (or whatever gun specific solvent you use). Wipe dry with lots of patches (you won't get a totally white patch, there will always be some color on the patch).

Now shoot to zero the scope, and your first group.

Plan a day at the range for this, no need to hurry it.

How about Gale McMillan? His opinion was that "barrel break-in" was concocted as merely a way for benchrest barrel makers to sell more barrels.

You can find lots of arguments for and against on the net. I've never found the "fors" very convincing.
            God gave you a soul.
            Your parents, a body.
            Your country, a rifle.

            Keep all of them clean.

if you pay $400+ for a match barrel, it damn well better not have any "burrs" in it. just because "match shooters" do it dosnt mean there is any sense in it.
