                  This was just two-paned glass, not a skyscraper window. My (parent's) house has double paned glass.

                      Actually, the husband of a co-worker is a paramedic. He told me about a guy they picked up. The guy had gotten drunk, got into an argument with his girlfriend and jumped off of a 20-something floor balcony. He said the guy landed on a car "just like out of the movies". And he lived. The paramedic said the guy was moaning about how much it hurt. His thought was, "no kidding it hurts, moron".
