    Putting linux on an xbox

    I've read over the how to on wikipedia and it all seems pretty straight forward. I've only got one thing I can't figure out: the part about making the xbox to USB connector. Am I just supposed to snip of the two ends and solder the right wires together? Link

    And, apparently I need some sort of memory stick to do this. Where can I buy said memory stick?

    And any feedback in general about putting linux on an xbox would be appreciated.

      This is one of those "If you need to ask, then you shouldn't be doing it" things.

      I'm also assuming you don't know linux.

      It'll be more trouble than it's worth.

          Yes, I have a USB keyboard at home that I can hook up to my xbox with the controller dongle.

          you need a memory stick for the controller.

          I went both the soft and the hardmod route. I like the hardmod simply for the fact that you can toggle between the original Xbox dashboard and other dashboards. It's not very fast though. If you just want to try a fun project, go here: http://www.xbox-linux.org/wiki/Getting_Started,
          read the info and do it. If you're looking to do a media center, you're much better off using XBMC. If you want to learn Linux, use a real computer.

              The usb connector should be that simple. I almost added one to my xbox. It really isnt hard at all. Good luck.

                  Alright, cool. Sounds easy.

                  And BTW, if I can't seem to manage the mod myself, then I've got a friend of a friend who can help me out with it.

                      It's not that tough. There plenty of step by steps out there. XBMC is very cool and really extends what you can do with your Xbox.
