    Mystery weapon from Iraq

I know this has nothing to do with paintball but I know there are a lot of prior service peeps here and yall might know what this is.

I got the pic from Drudge report and then I checked out the guys web site.

    The guys web site is
www.michaelyon-online.com it takes a long time to load, he has a ton of pics.

Let me know what yall think.

We were talking about this on an aggie message board earlier today......... its a homebuilt grenade launcher setup for either AA or as a lob type grenade launcher.

Probably a modified mortar tube in some variety the could not get rounds for anymore, it's obviously homemade...

That website has some really nice war-blogs (for lack of better terminology).

It looks like a home-made rocket launcher. You can see that it has a rifle stock attached to the bottom, and a rifle optic stuck on the side. The insurgents made plenty of these kinds of launchers. It certainly isn't any sort of dedicated SAM. It's just a dumbfire rocket launcher.

I find it extremely hard to believe that an ex-special forces soldier couldn't figure out what it was.

                rpg?

If it is not an home made rpg launcher then it might be a shake gun, used by EOD and combat engeiner units the shake the crap out of stuff. The round that comes out of there has very little Comp b in it and when it hits an object it shakes the hell out of it.

It's definately some kit-bash piece of crap rocket launcher. It just launches some leftover dumbfire rockets someone probably found stashed in an arms cache.

                  Just like these:

I was looking for one particular one I saw, that had about 6 tubes on it. Absolutely ridiculous.

What is way more interesting right now is the recovery of Styer sniper rifles sold to Iran by the Austrians turning up in Iraq.... More than just a few of them just several months after the sale was completed.

                            Indeed we did.

However, these Styers are brand new and the only place they can come from are from Iran. And within just a month or two from delivery to Iran. Plus.... the Serial numbers fresh, trackable and are known. But your going to find all sorts of old Weapons in Iraq. Russian and Chinese too. Far FAR more of those. Those two will sell to anyone at any time.

LOl Russia is so desperate to sell off their surplus. They've got to make enough money to somehow afford to replace the AK-74's with the AN-94 lol.
