Global Warming is Man made, True or False?

Just wondering what people think on this whole Global Warming issue. I personally feel that it is not resulting from CO2 emissions. I think that the weather is cyclical in nature and that we get these periods of warming and cooling that are unrelated to a "greenhouse effect." Think of how long the earth has been here, no matter what you beliefs on that are, we have only been keeping weather records for the last 200-250 years. Based on the span earth has been here with that do we really have enough information to come to a conclusion on this? I just feel like the people who are pushing this so heavily need to treat it more as a theory than as a fact, it feels like y2k all over again to me.

I still have a hard time understanding how they can predict weather in 5-10yrs but can't tell me if it's going to rain next week Sat and be 100% right all the time.

Humans have only had an influence for just over 100 years.. Think about it.. Before that, there was no noticable technology releasing these harmful gases into the atmosphere. Within those 100 years, they HAVE seen how the ozone layer has decreased/grown/decreased again.

It's real. It's not a myth.

There is a HOLE in the ozone layer. Not a little one that's shrinking but a BIG one that's expanding:



And that's only until 1998, imagine the size of it now.

The problem is that as we increase our output of greenhouse gases (we create MORE each day rather than LESS), the forests (the "lungs of the planet") are shrinking.



BigEvil, you're right, people do follow the money. The goal of a business is to make money. The goal of a Chinese government employee is to make their stats look pretty on paper so they can get a promotion--if they cared about the environment their production would go down, they would look bad, and they wouldn't get the promotion. I know that's a specific case, but it's a pretty basic business heirarchy where the lower guys will do whatever it takes to make more money and get ahead in life

edit: I used a Chinese gov't employee as an example because I just watched a documentary on China and read a book about it. The pollution in China has increased exponentially since 1950. Once beautiful lakes and rivers are now unswimmable. Rivers are so polluted that dead fish regularly wash up on the shores. Irrigation have caused one might rivers to slow to a trickle. They are building canals hundreds of miles long so they can pump water from southern china to northern China (the leader of the project said "God wasn't fair to southern china, so we are correcting God's mistakes). It's really hard to imagine the scale of the pollution in China and what it will be in the next decade of two.

Scientists have been proving that global warming is a reality. However, there is no significant data showing that it is man-made. There is significant data that shows the warming of the earth has been natural, and that human influence is minimal if not irrelevant. The global warming crisis that the media and politicians have created is a sham and people who buy into it are ignorant sheep. Probably the same people who believed the bird flu would be an epidemic. Be smart and listen to the scientists, not the greasy politicians and the crooked media.

Some interesting information for you:

Yes, carbon dioxide in the air has increased in the last century due to the use of fossil fuels. Yes, global average temperature has increased 0.8 degrees F in the same century. Unfortunately, the temperature increase came first: most of the temperature increase was before 1940, and most of the new carbon dioxide was added after 1960.

The amount spent on climate studies worldwide has now reached the astonishingly high level of about $5 billion per year. In the United States alone, more than $2 billion is spent annually for climate studies, not including the costs of satellites, ships, and laboratory construction. Climatologists have obtained this immense amount of funding by creating the vision of a man-made planetary climate catastrophe.

Billions of dollars of grant money is flowing into the pockets of those on the man-made global warming bandwagon (see above). No man-made global warming, the money dries up. This is big money, make no mistake about it. Always follow the money trail and it tells a story. Nothing wrong with making money at all, but when money becomes the motivation for a scientific conclusion, then we have a problem. For many, global warming is a big cash grab.

Why are we having record lows in several areas if there is Global Warming? And why were we saying we were on the brink of an Ice Age in the 70s?

to those of you who understand reverse heat pumps:

Here is the reason why global warming is occuring. We are becoming fatter (world as a whole.... not just the us) During the summertime we require more air conditioning. Therefore we turn our AC units on. Because the laws of thermodynamics it states that the heat pump will get warm while compressing R-35 to cool our houses. We put the cool air inside and the hot air outside. If everyone would turn their AC off in the summer the outside would cool down. See college did teach me something

I've read all the posts here and have seen number of valid points. "Is global warming manmade?". Well, that's a very good question. We cannot deny that emissions are causing BIG problems and that the human race has managed to destroy a large portion of creation in a very little amount of time. No other creature, no other species in that exists or has existed has caused such a terrible amount of damage. Most creatures run in sync with their biocommunity and in some way contribute to the recyling of nature, but not us. We tear down, destroy, build, populate, and overcrowd. And how do we fuel all these activities? -Fossil fuel. We are destroying ourselves. You can't deny the facts guys. On the flip side, yes it is entirely true that we have a VERY limited amount of knowledge on weather patterns and events of the past. Even scientists can only gather evidence and then speculate what probably happened. We can be sure that the earth does expirience fluxuations in temperature and that these ARE natural occurences. Thus the ice ages, thus the droughts of past times. But understand this....prior to the use of fossil fuels, and I mean to make it clear: THERE WAS NO HOLE IN THE OZONE. Put all theories and disputes of truth behind. Embrace what is right before you. I suppose it's something like firing your gun and leaving a hole in something. you get caught by someone and with the gun in your hands and smoke coming out the barrel, it's obvious who is to blame. Well, I see a hole, and I don't see anything else but millions of smoking barrels on top of factories and buildings.
