    Am I a jerk?

I got bored earlier so I called Autozone and asked for a water pump for my 1974 VW Bug. I had the one guy going for a bit, then the manager got on the phone and was checking to see if he could order one.

Hah, I would have been clueless had it not been for that recent thread with Lohman talking about them being air cooled. I think its pretty funny.

Then they'll catch on and hang up. Next time I'm going to ask for a thermostat for an 83 Corvette and tell them 82 or 84 won't work, it needs to be 83.

The old bugs all used an air cooled engine (think kinda like a lawnmower). There was no fluid cooling system, no coolant, no radiator, and no water pump.

I always thought that was common knowledge. Hrmm...

I said 83, not 84 darn it. I need the right part . Ask for a thermostat for a Corvair instead.

I sent one of the guys (the "gopher") to get muffler bearings from the dealer once for his Chevy. They told him he had to go to Ford, so he went to Ford. Ford told him he needed a part number....

One of the guys I played with jokingly told a friend he could rebuild his exhaust with PVC pipe.
Sure enough the kid went to the hardware store, told them he wanted PVC pipe to redo his exhaust, got the pipe and ended up calling the kid back asking why his new exhaust was smoking so much.
