Been toying with an idea...

Is there any reason I couldn't hook up an hpa tank to a nail gun instead of using a compressor? I'd use a Palmer's Stab to regulate it down to 35psi or whatever my nail gun uses.

that would be freaking awesome! DO IT!!! It should work, although you'll probably have to have an output pressure more like 90 psi.

The volume of air required cannot be supplied by the HPA tank IMO....unless of course you are talking a brad nailer for a few shots.

There would be an easy solution for that, just make a volume chamber for the lower pressure air. That way you have a bigger volume of LPA to sustain the nail gun. Still might have to wait for it to recharge after a few rapid shots but it would help immensely.

LP decreases efficiency.

Not to mention, its HPA, gas isnt expanding, you have a fixed amount. Once its gone, its gone.

At 4500psi you're getting 36 times the pressure you would in a 125psi compressor. So figure a one gallon air tank would be equal to a 36 gallon compressor tank. You could fire off a hundred or so framing nails with that.

That said if you want a cordless nail gun go with the Paslode guns.

No one ever claimed that the nail gun would be very efficient, and he's going to have to regulate that high pressure down to a reasonable amount or else it's going to pop a seal, break an o-ring, or otherwise explode and fail miserably somehow. Also he's going to have to have a certain volume of this lower pressure air, or else it'll just hiccup and not do a damn thing.

You work at a hardware store, go look at the nail guns you have for sale and see what their air requirements are...

Use an AGD nail gun. All things AGD love HPA.

ermm.... it would work... for a few shots. Most nailers need between 90-150 psi to run. WIth a reg you could make it work, but why when pasload, dewalt and senco make such nice cordless nailers?

So let's say I run it remote, which would also double as a volume chamber. At 90-125 psi, I should get a fair amount of work done w/ a 68/45, right?

Several of you asked as to the "why" of this; I'm not looking to reinvent or go out and buy a cordless nailer, I'm trying to use my existing nailers without the compressor.
