all in all, i thought it was a damn good movie. if you really want to enjoy a movie that is not supposed to be a documentary, then you are supposed to suspend your disbelief. that is one of the first rules of movie watching. Anyway, while we are discussing the accuracy, I was rather impressed with Miller's depiction of the battle formation (Phalanx) was pretty good. I have not seen many (or any, for that matter) movies that have done a good job of this yet. So kudos for that!
as far as depth of characters, come on, it's a movie about a battle. It's no Saving Private Ryan, but good for what it is.

Odd since they purposely didn't accurately portray the phalanx and used a fighting formation that "looked cooler". The only accurate part was the initial rush. After that it kinda went to hell.

I know, even after Leonidas explains to the hunchback that his disability would not allow him to participate in the phalanx they were about to use lol.

Well in all fairness it's not like they made it up. The battle of Thermopylae actually did happen, and much of the dialogue between Persian and Spartan forces did go somewhat like that. The whole "fight in the shade" bit has been passed around in the history books long before the comic.

On no, i get all that, im into military history and history in general.

But as a movie, i thought it wasnt as as great as people make it out to be. Stunning visuals can only do so much for me.

It's got naked chicks and lots of fighting. You go into the movie already knowing the outcome so the story really isn't that important. Considering the caliber of movies that have been coming out lately, this one is above par.

can anyone confirm that the spartans often performed "homesexual acts" on one another? One of my teachers said that and I have some trouble believing that

It was pretty good but a bit too heavy on CGI. Sometimes I felt like I was watching somebody playing a videogame.

homosexuality was a lot more common back around that time period, actually.

They'd encourage homosexuality in military camps to increase bonding. I guess they thought you'd be fight for a guy who just sexed you. I dunno about you, but I'd be more likely to push him to the front of the line so that my *rear end* didn't get reamed again.

It wasn't just in Sparta. All over Greece and Macedonia they encouraged homosexuality as a means of channeling a young man's sexual energy into activity that would not endanger the virginity of unmarried Greek girls.

Alexander the Great was a homosexual btw. Based on commentary by his contemporaries, Alexander and his friend from boyhood, Hephaistion, were engaged in a sexual/romantic relationship. He did marry women for political reasons. However he also had mistresses, so the evidence really points to him being bisexual.
