I didn't go to mine for the same reasons, most of my friends weren't going, plus it would just be a complete waste of money and time when you can start gettin crunked earlier

The first time I avoided the prom was when I was in 1st grade. My older sister was a member of the prom commitee and student council, and one day a few of her friends showed up in our class and all us kids had to march around in a circle. They were looking for junior prom candidates for ring bearers and flower girls. They wanted to use me, but my sister asked them if it looked like I wanted to do it, and they said no. My sister could be really bossy but she was cool about not making you do something you didn't want to do. My friend at the time got busted and had to do it.

The second time I avoided it was when I was a senior. I just flat out didn't go, even though there was a slight air of coercion and force being applied to get people to go. Here's the bottom line:

The "black mark" of not going to the prom was never a drawback in life. I never lost a job because of a lack of prom attendance showed up on my "permanent record," and my credit rating and score is very high (800+) despite my committing the horrid "crime" of not going to the prom. You'll be fine.

Yeah....it has nothing to do with physical things like credit rating...wtf? It's more about the experience. I'm not saying you SHOULD go...if it's not for you then that's fine. Of course it's not going to ruin your life if you don't go. It will just be an experience you missed out on, and if it's one you think you won't enjoy then, yeah, just don't go.

I went because my girlfriend wanted to go. Of course when we got there and all they had is lame rap music and two slow songs she was complaining... so money well spent? The only thing I really like about my senior prom was my cool tux, besides that I didn't think it was that special.

So unless you really want to go, I don't think you will be missing much.

I can't wait for mine. Next Saturday, yay! My friend isn't going, only because he didn't get a date. My girl and I are making a big deal of it, though.

Ours is going to be total crap. I'm pretty sure I'm not going. The tradition at my school (dunno about others) is that the junior class pays for prom. Well, they dont have any money so we're having it in a convention room at Georgia Tech.
                Yeah.
Last year it was at a freaking awesome hotel. I went and it was pretty fun. My date was kind of boring and awkward but other than that it was all good :)

I could easily get a date, its not about that... its just... going to suck. Total waste of money if you ask me. I dont particularly enjoy dancing anyway.

plus kidz who dont go to prom are cooler

Now if we had it in the new Georgia Aquarium, like we WERE SUPPOSED TO, I would go because that's just kickass.

I went and didn't enjoy it, but I'm glad I went. After a few dances to appease my date we booked it to the big after-party. So did everyone else, the place was empty after an hour.

I did go to my prom and my girlfriend's prom senior year. I'm a senior in college now, and honestly don't remember much from either prom four years ago.

My recommendation is to keep in touch with those going to the prom, then show up to after parties that promise a wicked good time.

I went because my friend convinced me to go. In short, it was hot as hell, boring, a waste of money, just all around sucky. However, Grad Night was awesome. No one thought I had the balls to kareoky (sp?).

Went to my junior prom, it sucked, so I went racing the night of senior prom.

The GF was less than amused at that, and we parted ways shortly thereafter.

Oh well, a man can't service two mistresses.

I was too busy getting into trouble seeing as I was already accepted into the military and was scheduled to start basic two weeks after I finished school.

I never went to mine, but I did go to someone else's prom...with two dates. It was worth the $$$.
