I have the stock vaio speakers. I looked at the control panel and it is recognizing the speakers. I've tried adjusting the volume on my keyboard and speakers. i've tried unplugging it and plugging it back in. I've tried plugging it in other slots.... Nothing is workingComment

Other slots? you moving the sound card around? Try a pair of headphones to see if you can hear from that. Maybe the speakers took a dump.Originally posted by bentothejam1nI have the stock vaio speakers. I looked at the control panel and it is recognizing the speakers. QFT, time to see if the port works. if it does you know the speakers dont. if the port doesn't work then you will need to get a new sound card. Now are you currently using a sound card or on board audio?Originally posted by d4m4don3Other slots? you moving the sound card around? Try a pair of headphones to see if you can hear from that. If using on board then like i said above you will need to get a card. If using a card, perhaps your board has on board you can use instead (be sure to pull the card and re-seat it, perhaps in a different slot if you have one available) ..???? You can also aways try the audio port in the front of the computer.Comment

for the first part to see if the speakers work, plug them into the headphone jack on a cd player, mp3, etc. anything that isn't the computer. next try plugging headphones you know work into the green plug in the back, see if it gives you audio.Originally posted by thecavemankevinQFT, time to see if the port works. if it does you know the speakers dont. if the port doesn't work then you will need to get a new sound card. as tck asked, are you using a sound card or intigrated?
also, did you buy the computer from somewhere or did you assemble? the reason i as is when i assemble my computers i never plug in the front audio, too many wires being routed and blocking airflow. if you bought the computer, go ahead and try the front (or top in some instances) headphone jack.e-mag 226

mk so the speakers work when they are hooked up to my ipod but the green port does not work. So since i bought my computer does that mean the sound card is integrated?Comment

not necessarily but, more than likely. the guaranteed way to know is to open up the case and see if the audio ports are built into the board like this:

you can also look at the back of the computer and if it looks similar to this then it is a good bet it is integrated/onboard
however, if it looks similar to the below pic then you likely have a card.

did you check to see if your front earphone port works?Comment

meh, high quality sound on computers is over rated to me so yeah 40 at an online retailer like newegg.com will get you a fine audio card. as long as you are a die hard audio nut then a basic digital card will work fine. I've always been partial to creative.Originally posted by bentothejam1ni dont have any ear phone jacks. ill check to see if i have a card tomorrow morning. Would 40 buy me a decent card?Comment
