No way. He got lambasted straight up! I think he took Serra (sp?) too lightly.

I agree, Serra is a force to be reckoned with.

The problem is that in UFC fighting, like just about any other one on one physical sports (like boxing, wrestling, karate.. etc), it just takes one landed punch to change everything. My coach used to tell me that any one person can beat any other person on a given day.. it's all a matter of who wants it more and who lands the shots.

Thats why it is so amazing in my opinion at how long Matt Hughes held the title. I think that the only reason Matt doesn't have it now is because of his stubborness. People keep telling him he doesn't hit hard enough to knock someone out, and that he has to rely on his wrestling/ground-n-pound. They said he couldn't stand toe to toe with the best fighters out there. He tried to prove them wrong against St. Pierre, and ended up paying the price for it. I think things would have been a lot different if he had gone for the takedown like he should have.. St. Pierre is very good with his striking.

Anyways, Serra landed some mean punches, but I have to say that he took advantage of this opportunity put before him, and I don't see him holding the title long. Hughes is going to want it back, although he didn't look very impressive with his last fight with Lytle... He dominated, but without a knockout or submission as most wanted.

I wanted Hughes to take the title back from St. Pierre, but now I'm guessing they are going to have Hughes fight St. Pierre to determine the #1 contender. If that happens, I hope Hughes is smart, and beats the canadian karate kid with his game. None-the-less, if Hughes or St. Pierre gets a shot at Serra, Serra loses the title. No offense at all to Serra, but St. Pierre and Hughes especially are more complete fighters. I just think it's sad that St. Pierre lost, although it made me happy because I don't like him and was rooting against him. This was supposed to be an easy title defense for him, and instead he got knocked out.

Let's just hope that Hughes ends up with the title and holds it for a while as well.. and I'm hoping Hughes' buddy Rich Franklin also gets his belt as well.. we'll see.

Pierre is in the Canadian National Wrestling team. Anybody that is a wrestling team that starts with word National can easily avoid a takedown unless it is perfectly timed and executed. Also if you look at the fight once more you will notice that Hughes took a tremendous amount of punishment to the legs from previous rounds causing

Or how having St Pierre TKO'd in round one by an inferior fighter accomplishes this either. St. Pierre is too promising of a fighter to want a loss such as this to put his skills in to question.
St Pierre is good, but he fought him wrong and that is why he lost. It was no accident, he went toe to toe with one of the strongest punchers in the game.

St. Pierre is too promising of a fighter to want a loss? How about a big fat paycheck for throwing the fight? Would that change his mind? He is young, he knows he has a future. He can stand to lose one fight.

How does having St. Pierre TKO'd in the first round by an inferior fighter accomplish a rigging of a fight? well gee, you just defined it. An inferior fighter stunning everyone with an upset is usually how a rigged fight goes.

Keep in mind, im not convinced it was rigged. I am just supposing it was.

Check Sherdog for the post fight interview with GSP. He said before most fights he is mentally ready for them, focused. Before this one he said he felt as though he had something to do or somewhere else to be. He looked very stiff.

I was surprised by the Swick loss also. When he let go of his hands and threw he had Okami on the defensive. I am curious what was going through his mind as well as Diego's.

I was kinda pissed about not getting the fights after I heard the post-fight rundowns. I was, and wasn't, suprised by the serra win tho. He is a good fighter and fairly well rounded. I also dont see one fighter in that division who is head and shoulders above the rest. Still, GSP, on paper, shoulda won that fight. Guess thats why you play the game

The Sanchez fight is supprising to me, because I have seen both fighters a lot, and thought Diego had the edge. Was Diego able to take him down and control him at all?
Wonder if he just just had too big a head and took Josh Lightly...

BTW, whats this about UFC 70 being free? I have been super busy and haven been keeping up with my MMA stuff for a while....I wasn't planning on getting it cause I gotta work that night, but maybe there will be replays....

UFC 70 will be free to US viewers. It will be aired on Spike. It is pay per view in the UK though where it takes place. I'm assuming there will be a delay between it's taping and airing here in the US.

I agree with you and by no means am saying that Pierre has no ground game. He does have a pretty decent ground game, but it isn't his strenght. Hughes proved that in his first fight, and BJ Penn did in his fight with Pierre. Honestly, I felt like they gave Pierre the decision over Penn, seeing as how Penn easily controlled Pierre from the BOTTOM, but that's another story. I just don't find Pierre's ground game to be his strength, and I don't think it would take a perfect takedown to get him down. Watch the first fight between Hughes and Pierre and Hughes didn't have much trouble taking him down then.

I do think that Pierre did what he needed to against Hughes in the second fight. Yes he wore down the legs of Hughes and out-struck him. It was an impressive win for him.

At the same time I don't think he performed well against Serra. Serra is definitely not a better striker than him, but he just landed punches when he needed to. That's fighting.. sometimes you throw a haymaker and it lands, and changes the whole fight. Pierre will definitely bounce back from this and come back stronger than ever. I just hope whoever is in line is ready for it, or else they are going to get a beating.
