    Product Design Project

My final drafting/design project for my Design Problems course involves the development of a brand spankin' new consumer product (calculations, bill of materials, sketches, drawings, solid modeling, the works) in 5 weeks. The criteria are that it must have some form of mechanical power transmission and it must be a general consumer product that fits a human need and is marketable.

I am horrible at generating ideas, so I'm coming to you guys. Is there a product you'd like to have but is not in existence? What would you like to see on the market? I would really appreciate your input.

But seriously heres some ideas I had:

    Automatic Dog/Cat Feeder

A dehumidifier and Air Purifier unit in one, instead of two seperate units.

Wireless Telephone Headset for Customer Service Companies

Everything you mentioned has already been invented.

And only two of them have any sort of mechanical power transmission.

Design an automatic device to clean labels off the outside of glass jars.

A simple, small, cheap RF demodulator for televisions and such... Basically a box to turn the coaxial cable input into the RCA jack output. Honestly there's none to be had. They tell you to either get an old VCR to use, or a cable box or something like that. They have the ones that do the opposite (convert the RCA plugs into the coaxial) for like $16 at Wal-mart, why can't they have the converters the other way around?

A new Automag would be nice, lol.

But I'm gonna keep this short and simple, mostly 'cause I'm drunk. lol (nice spelling, eh) Keep in mind I can also improve on previous designs (to an extent- the cat feeder was a neat idea).

I was thinking of a nutcracker with a ratchet system integrated into it. Kinda like those branch trimmers that you squeeze over and over w/o relieving the cutting pressure on the branch. I haven't seen something like that on the market before.

How about a set of cordless kitchen appliances that use battery packs. This would be similar to DeWalt cordless tools. So you could have interchangeable 18v batter packs that power a blender, mixer, can opener, food processor and whatever else is motor driven.

Here is my design project this semester. Just did it yesterday too.
This is just pulled out of thin air. My own idea of what a cannon should be.

MoeMag- NICE. What program did you use?

beam- That cordless kitchen appliance idea sounds pretty neat.

                            i'd buy it.

i always got annoyed by the fact that there are stupid whistle things for keys, and a page button for cordless phones. yet there isn't one for the tv remote.
do you know how convenient it would be to just walk up the tv, press the page button... and listen for the freakin' remote? rather than me throw my pillows everywhere, and throw random curse words around while trying to find it.

probably doesn't meet your criteria, but i had to throw it out there.
