$273 shipped. Then $20 for the flash cable, $30 for the memory card, $5 for the car charger, $7 for the (worthless) screen protectors, $5 for the headphone adapters, and $33 for a 3-year warrantee through ebay. So, in total, $373, or so. All prices include shipping. I bought everything on ebay.
you know you play this game too much when the neighbors stop fixing their broken windows...

Have you seen this thing in action? NO ONE is coming out with anything like this. http://www.apple.com/iphone/ Real internet, not some phone version of it. Touch screen with sensors that shut it down when you bring it to your face. Plus, don't forget its also an I-Pod and I-Pod video. How much are people dropping for those? Video voice mail, see who called and pick the one you want to hear instead of having to listen to them all. Apple is setting the bar, others need to catch up, and it will take more than 2 years to do it.

well if you insist I will give you some advice. Cingular WILL give you a discount on your iphone if you can set up a group purchase. It's not significant but every little bit helps, as I understand it 10 guys at work have already set it up with cingular for a 50$ rebate. I will get more info.
If you do get this phone PLEASE get some type of comprehensive insurance with a clause to include accidental damage.
Thirdly, understand that it's popular opinion that the iphone version 2 will be out before a 2 year contract expires.

Oh and this was exceptionally interesting

Reasons I wouldn't want the iphone:

Touch screen keyboard is difficult to type on, no tactile response. (read about people who use pda's. they used to be all touch-screen, but pda users found buttons easier to work with)

Price. $600 WITH two year contract, AND I believe you are required to have a fairly expensive monthly payment to deal with all the media fees. I would not doubt $80 monthly phone bills.

Many other phones can play music and movies. So it doesn't have the easy menus, etc. It's a phone first, a mp3 player second.

No microSD card slot. It's pretty much the only phone that doesn't have one these days... And I wonder why...

Have you ever seen(seen, not just own, but seen, heard, etc.) of any ipod that has lasted more than two years without breaking? How about any phone? Very few phones, next to no ipods. So they get you to sign this two-year contract, your phone breaks after a year, and now you have to buy ANOTHER iphone for who knows how much because you don't get the contract discount. Or you can go back to some other phone, but you've still got expensive monthly payments for all the media services you're no longer using...

All these great features, and they couldn't throw a 3MP camera on it? 2MP isn't progress, it's settling for last year's technology.

^^^My Personal reasons for not wanting an Iphone.

That said, I'm sure when the first people start getting them, I'll be one of those who looks on and says wow...
But I would never want one for me.

                      it has potential, no doubt.
One thing that's noteworthy it that most expensive phones are marketed to business professional. The iphone is almost pure play. for comparrison...

my k1m ( not a very special phone ) does:
                      Video
                      mp3
some type of Internet ( I really don't know because I'm too cheap to pay a wireless provider for Internet )
Bluetooth 1.2 ( it can be used as a wireless modem to connect to the Internet with a laptop)
it has no memory but SD cards are really cheap now.
                      1.3 mp camera
                      250$ without contract

                      the iphone does:
                      video, only more fancy
                      mp3s, only more fancy
                      Internet, only more fancy
Bluetooth 2.0 (but it might be able to be used as a modem via blue tooth I have not seen anything that would indicate this)
no SD slot but 4 - 8 gigs of built in memory.
                      2 mp camera
500$-600$ with a contract ( I though that was msrp, I had no clue that was contract price?)
                      802.11 b/g

One thing that phone manufacturers are going to want to add to every Mp3 capable phone is a a2dp profile for BT and avrcp profile for BT. Without these the phone is basically outdated right now. This includes my k1m, but I think the iphone has it. I'm sure apple will release a white bt headset in the very near future and it will be bought, because it's white.

Honestly, the ipods ONLY feature that current windows mobile devices don't have is the built in flash memory. I may be missing something, as there is relatively little know about the iphones true capabilities but the device just doesn't warrant the price tag. I am curious though, I'll keep an open mind about this one, but I won't be able to afford one if that is the price WITH a contract. I can't justify droping a grand for two phones that don't even have all the features I want on a phone. Add a decent camera, a SD card slot, a usb port .......
