    Walky talkies?

So, there are like 300 of these things on the market right now. I'm looking for something under 100$ GREAT battery life, range of at least 5 miles, voice activacted with a mic jack.

Anyone know anything about these or where I can read about them. So far I'm not finding anything impartial to help me.

You can pick up a good Motorola at walmart for $30. Just look on the package to see if it has Vox and a jack.

Midland has 18 mile capable, with kits including chargers and mics. Used them in Iraq with great success as they were private, and kept us off the Army net.

I just ordered their new 26 milers, but will have to wait a few more weeks until they get to distribution.

I used a Motorola last weekend that I paid $39 for 2 at a Scenario game. We just cliped it to our collor backwards and inside our camo's shirts. It worked very well that we won both sessions for the day because we were able to coordinate our attacks.

I'm not positive, but my understanding is that anything with more than a 2 mile range requires an FCC licence.

              Ed,

              Item Subtotal: $79.98
              Shipping Cost: $10.37
              GRAND TOTAL: $90.35

              From Bulverde Home Theater

I love my 18 milers, but that extra kick will be really handy in-country.

Eagle, yes, GMRS capable radios require a FCC license. Now, I'm not one to go about breaking Federal law, but the odds of the FCC coming after a family radio user is pretty darn slim

The 18's would last three full days monitoring only, and at least two days in constant use. When new, the batteries lasted nearly the 3 day convoy from Kuwait to Balad, constantly keeping track of our stick. But all I needed to do, was to swap out the NiCad pack with normal alkalines and I was back in business with no loss of the stored frequencies or settings.

Notice, the 26 milers aren't out yet. You will be put on backorder right away.

                    i have the Motorola T6530.

They come in packs of two at Wal Mart for 60 bucks. They have many customizable features and are probably the best you can get without shelling out more money.
