Texting is great for people who don't pick up their phone, like me. I'd rather people text than actually call because I get annoyed when some guy next to me is yelling into his phone telling his bro about some sick party last night.

I use both. When I want to talk to someone or organize something with a friend, I call. When I want to say something to my friend privately when I'm in a group, I might text the message discreetly, and he/she'll get it discreetly. Texts are also good for "I'm here, where are you?" and such like that, or times when you just can't talk. Or when your friend has strep throat and can't speak...

I dunno. I've had a phone for four years, and texting for just over two months. I use about 400 minutes(probably 250+ are night/weekend) a month and 160 texts out of 400 allowed. I'm not a huge phone user, but 160 texts a month averages about 5-6 a day. It really depends. I'm glad I have both, but I don't text people who don't have texting, just my friends who also have texting plans.

Speaking of receiving unwanted texts... I believe you can talk to your service provider and ask them to disallow texting on your phone so you aren't charged. I know Cingular does it... My phone also has a block feature so I can block texts from unwanted numbers (you know, those occasional really annoying service messages, etc...).

Oh, and for picture and video messaging... get cingular :P Picture and video messaging costs the same as regular SMS, it just takes one off your plan.
you know you play this game too much when the neighbors stop fixing their broken windows...
