    yay for public edu!

Hmm, I'm thinking that if my kid were in that school, I'd find where the hairbrained fools were that thought this up, and stage a "mock attack" in their kitchens.

I am a teacher, and I tend to be defensive about people in my profession...

But that was just plain dumb.

There are other ways to teach lessons, especially to 6th graders.

We've had drills at my school for dangerous situations, but the staff and students are always informed ahead of time. In fact, I think there's some law against have a "fake" attack to test student/teacher responses.

I'm divided on that issue. People at my school could care less about the drills for that stuff and this might work, but it is also so wrong esp. with the VT Shootings so close to it.

rule #1 about training exercises, make sure everyone knows its a training exercise. Otherwise someone is going to get killed/hurt for the worst reason.

werd, I'm not the type of person to stand by and let things happen. I probably would have been the "hero" if I had seen it happening and straight tackled the teacher in the mask, doing my best to injure him/her in the process.

Btw, isn't this the definition of terrorism?

Yup, same here. If I were made to believe that my life was in danger, I'd do whatever necessary to defend it. That includes killing the alleged attacker.

Not a suprise though. Not a lot of intelligent thinking is ever really done by public school administrators.
