    Excercise? What's your motivation

Well, about 2 weeks ago I started running.

I just find it hard to go out and run..I have to really force myself. I want to, so I can get in shape because that would just overall improve my lifestyle, but when it comes down to it , it's hard to actually commit..

I've done pretty well so far, but I was just wondering what motivates others to excercise?

find someone more motivated than you as a running partner.

I have the same problem, I'm motivated for about 3 weeks, stop, than wait 2 months to get motivated again.

i was motivated a litle while. i was not only working out but i was on a diet. it wasnt the best diet but it was a whole lot better than waht i used to eat. mainly cut back on soda entirely and dont eat after 6. the soda was pretty easy to kick but after 6 is hard because that is usually dinnertime for my family so when they all go out to eat i watch. find something thatll be yours once your in shape. being in high school my motivation is pretty obvious. im getting in shape for a girl. well trying to.... goodluck to you guys.

i'd go along with what geekwarrior said. Get a partner. They dont necessarily have to be more motivated than you but you dont want a total couch potato either. How old are you?

Having a regular workout partner can be a huge help. But in the long run, if you wont go on your own you will never stick with it. The fact that you are doing it to improve your quality of life says a lot. Your motivation will pick up when you start seeing results. And even if you are only doing 45 mins, three or four times a week you will definitely see results When I hit 30 I decided to start small and just run a couple times a week. That was 4.5 years ago now and I go to the gym 5-6 days now and love it You just have to stick out the plateaus

to answer your question though, my motivation is the troops in Iraq and how they go through a lot worse of stuff than we do and they dont and moan like we do

Ye, my friend and I actually started at the same time and we will get together like once twice a week and run together (depending on work schedules) but it doesn't help that he is in a little better shape then me so when I'm ready to walk a few feet he is still jogging...so I hold him up some..

Im 17..turn 18 in 12 days actually (threw that in there since I just kinda relized it...)

-just got back from running..only went a mile, then did some sit-up and push-ups..if I do this 2 more times this week Ill be content.

                I'm an overweight, asthmatic smoker.

Dont talk to me about walking after 3ft.

But i'm in the same boat, no motivation. You'd assume that the whole "generally better lifestyle" would do it, but you'd be surprised...

Does not eating late in the evening really help? I've heard it from a couple people now, so there must be some consensus about it.

I eat my supper around 8-11PM depending on when I get home. And I usually go to bed anywhere from midnight to 2AM depending on how tired I am.

Your diet is actually very important to getting into and staying in shape. Yes, eating late is not a great idea.

Simple terms; eat 5-7 small meals throughout the day. Lot of fresh food, veggies and fruits. Lots of chicken.

Maybe get involved in a school sport? also be sure to listen to music when you run. it helps me out. See if your high school has a summer weights program. I know mine does

Jus finished highschool and don't plan on going back in any shape or form..

Ye I listen to music when I run, it does make it more bearable.

I don't know it's not the running that kills me, it's the getting my lazy butt out there..

I say the best way to run is to first find your limit. If you only can run a mile in 8 to 10 minutes, it's okay. Now once you find your comfort zone, try and run double to triple that (if the distance gets ridiculous, just cut down time a dramatic but realistic amount). You'll probably end up throwing up or just getting too tired to go on. Now go back to what you're comfortable with. You'll probably have no problem with running that anymore so you won't feel inclined to skip the day's run. I used do a hell run every two weeks to remind me to not be lazy. Just don't run in the middle of a summer day or you'll pass out if you over exert yourself.

I used to run from 5 to 6 (this includes stretching and some pushups/crunches/shadowboxing) in the summer and it worked out really well for me.

                          .

I used to exercise but motivation is the hardest part. I'd exercise with other people, or run with my dogs ( A lab and a bull dog can run you)

use summer as your motivation ...i've pretty much been on and off since i started working out 7 or more years ago ..i'd go strong for 3-4 months then just stop for 2 ...i need to start going again
