So I totaled my car today...

The roads were wet this morning on the way to work and the suv in front of me stopped suddenly and I slid right into her.

The other car got a flat tire and a scratched bumper.. maybe some other damage underneath but very little visible. Her bumper went above the bumper of my car so the hood, radiator and engine took the force of the collision. So I assume its totaled.

Good thing is no one was hurt.

With the invention of cell phone cameras I offer a piece of advice - perhaps far too late for you but good for someone else. In this type of situation take pictures. I know a couple people who thought the other vehicle had minor damage and by the time they got to the body shop it was totalled (and showed far more damage then the accident should have caused).

Was there a stop light? If not, I'd think it was insurance fruad(not on your part)

I think iambored is paranoid, you know, "tin foil hat".

More likely temps was going too fast, too close. It doesn't take much to total a car today, wreck a front bumper, and blow an airbag and your already looking at $6000 in repairs, I want my metal cars back.

shh...THEY CAN READ YOUR THOUGHTS IF YOU TALK TO LOUD!!!
LOL, but seriously metal bumpers were nice. At least they didn't need to be replaced after every wreck like this foam fill junk they stick on cars now, cars just aaren't made the way they used to be.

what iambored is talking about is one person will box a car in, whether it's making them not able to change lanes by being on the side, or being in front of them moving slowly while the other will stop in the first instance or keep going in the second causeing an incident. after that i'm not sure how the insurance fraud part works.

but that sucks man. hopefully it will be repaired quickly and properly. or if it's totalled you get a decent price for your old car. good luck with anything either way temps.

You do realize that tin foil only makes it easier for the government to read our thoughts.

this recently happened to me. during a big snow storm,i slid into someone on an offramp at less than 5mph.. I did NO damage to my WRX but yet they claimed I did over $1000 in damage to their car. Since it was a rear-end collision, I'm techincally automatically at fault regardless of the road conditions.. i took pictures with a coworkers camera phone but after a month of not hearing anything, i deleted them since I figured nothing was happening.. Not a day after i deleted them, i got a call from my insurance about a claim filed against me.

needless to say, i'm in the process of fighting it. even the adjuster, who i have on record, stated that he couldnt see how my car could cause $1000 in rear-end damage without causing ANY on my car. $1000 meant that not only did the bumper need to be resurfaced but it was most likely cracked/broken and needed to be replaced.

I know one incident where the insurance adjuster flat out told the person at fault that they *knew* the damage done to the other car was not done in the accident but it would be too much of a problem to try to prove in court and just acted like it was.

$1600 for a bumper cover and paint for a BMW 528i. That sucked.
