So you think you have had a crazy week?

About 2 years ago my wife and I bought my grandparents house on Staten Island from my uncle (who ran it into the ground for the past 10 years). In need of a MAJOR overhaul.. This has been in the planning stages for what seems like forever. Some of the guys who came over prior to Tunaball were all sitting around on folding chairs since most of my furniture was already moved out in perparation for the construction.

Today is exactly 7 days that the contractor has been working. Its nice to see it come along, and even nicer how FAST its going.

Oh, btw, the future site of the pre-Tunaball II BBQ !!

    Pics
    DAY 1
    Kitchen before and after

    The rest of the house was treated similarly;

    Day 2 and By 3
Bye-bye siding and the rest of the floors

    Day 4

Final interior gutting, prep work, and lumber delivery...

Day 5 Oops where did the 2nd story go?

    Yup thats me

that realy isn't to bad if you've got a decent crew.

it took us a month to do a 2nd story on a house, we had a 3 man crew and i was inexpierenced.

some of the days we worked on different jobs too.

why did you use plywood for the roof instead of OSB?

                Damn.

And to think it took our contractors two months two renovate 2.5 baths...

weird, around here you can use OSB but you have to have the clips that hold them together.

Plywood is stronger anyways, but i'm quite sure its way more expensive.

                    Because:
Tounge and groove 1x > Plywood > OSB

its not tounge and groove, they make these metal clips spefically for using OSB for roofing. give the OSB more support.

would get expensive as hell to do a roof with tounge and groove.

You should have seen the stuff that was under the siding... some experimental corragated stuff from god knows when my grandfather did the siding on the house. It was so thin and dried out you could poke holes in it with your finger. Im surprised the house didnt just blow over. :-) We replaced everything we could with plywood. 1/2" IIRC.

clips are called ply-clips, tongue and groove is stronger, but more expensive.

That experimental stuff is probably buffalo board. It's still used today just not as much.

Pop the top baby!! So how many s/f did you add? Lots of peeps in Co. to that to add sf to their house.
Due to the objections of a certain Canadian, this space is now for rent.

You easily doubled what the house was worth with that. How many K did you drop on the contractors?
