Last time you guys saw me, i was getting banned for hotlinking an image, which the host of that image (which was a piece of soap btw) played a mean trick by changing the image when you hotlinked it. i know, i know, i shouldve known better, so yea, sorry bout that Tried emailing the webmaster and mods, and lo and behold mailer daemon errors. whatever.

I wish i could say that i wasn't around recently because i found something productive other than trolling to do, but thats not the case. A few weeks ago i had a lung collapse (spontaneous pneumothorax), so paintball is a possibility, but im not sure if im willing to take the increased risk.

Anyway, anyone know of anyone that continued to play after something similar? i saw a thread on pbnation about it, but not much was said on it that was worth reading (big surprise)

Its possible to play with a [partially] collapsed lung . I did before - there was a bruised spleen, brusied ribs, sprained ankle, and road rash involved. That being said it was not spontaneous, so I don't know how much difference that makes.

I assume that you went for medical attention and that the doctor told you what you could and could not do. My co-worker had his lung collapse twice. The first time it was treated with the needle thing (I don't know what that means) and it re-inflated. He continued to play recreational adult hockey. About a year later it collapsed again and that time it required surgery. Claims he no longer has a membrane somewhere, (it's all Greek to me). Still plays hockey but is not allowed to smoke or go diving (not that he ever did).

One of th eguys I played wiht for about 14 years only had 1/4 use of one of his lungs, and he kept up with the best of em.

Keep in shape, deep breathing exercises to keep your lungs strong, and you should be fine.

My mother has lived her entire life with only 1 lung, and my ex fiance had a spontaneous pneumothorax while playing softball that I was able to slightly rectify with a bic pen through her rib cage, and she had the real surgery after that. Not a single lingering effect in her case except the little scar from the pen. Youll be fine, should be a good bar story.

i was talking to this kid that was some emt training and he said they had these videos from the fifties about that stuff. He said they showed people using broken glass, car antennas, ball point pens. i wish i could see it hah

its called thoracocentesis i believe. atleast they used a sterile needle to do it on me, albeit, it was 12 inches large...

Raven, theres a few different options that he mightve done, but from what the thoracic surgeon said, the second occurring, they staple all the remaining blisters, and "sand down" the top of the lung to irritate it, making scar tissue, which adheres to the top of the lung cavity, that way, even if the blister pops again, it cant leak


i think the only amusing thing out of this whole ordeal was after the actual tube was put in...

Nurse: So, how are you feeling, was the morphine drip enough?

Nurse: Oh. You were supposed to have a morphine IV....

yep, its called the pleural cavity. air gets in there, making it pressurized so the lung cant reinflate.

it could be from a puncture, but it can be 100% spontaneous from little blisters on the top of the lung, which a lot of people have

Eck... the one time I had morphine I hated it. It burned up from my arm to my throat. Horrible dull achey burning feeling... Luckily they put me under shortly after that...

(I was in atrial fib, they defibrillated me. Actually, it was kinda fun, other than the morphine )
