    Need some car advice

Ok so my day has started off badly once again. The motor in my car is shot, and I don't think its worth putting a new (used) one in it. Its a 97 ford thunderbird 3.8L V6 car has some rust and an r title so I think I might be better off to scrap it since with a good motor it might be worth 1k.

    So what should I do????

Should I get the motor, probably going to cost about 800 bucks I figure to get a decent one.

Should I buy a used car something in the 5k range is probably what I can afford with a loan

Or should I buy something new in the 15k range with a good warranty.

    Any advice is appreciated

really depends on what you can afford for a monthly payment.. then evaluate how much money in repairs that $5K car is going to cost you over the time you're paying for the loan - I wouldn't recommend taking a loan out on a car with higher mileage because by the time you're done paying it off, you have a car with 100-200K miles.

If you can afford it, get a nwe hyundai or a Kia thats only 10-14K with a GREAT warranty... With a 5 year loan, the car will be covered under warranty most likely for those 5 years AND your payments probably won't be much more..

You can buy a decent car in the 5-7K range.

I have been looking at like kia's hyundai's and suzuki's, I should be able to afford a payment of around 300 a month without to much of a problem. And I don't think you can beat the 100k warranties.

Those hyndai's, kia's resale value tend to drop pretty quickly so that you might be able to pick a a one or two year old one for under 8k that will still have alot of warranty left if thats what you have decided on. Also alot of off lease malibus and taurus' can be bought at a decent price as well .... a dealer here in my town is advertising some program taurus' 2007 models for 11.4k . Lastly you might consider joining a credit union they tend to finance loans at cheaper rate than just about any where.

Yeah i saw that the values drop like a brick. I am a member of a credit union and also a member of the military bank (USAA) both have decent APR rates. I just really don't know what to do, and insurance is going to suck on anything if I have to get full coverage.

Kias actual warranty is not all it is implied to be. While every company has maintenance requirements etc. Kia has been getting a reputation of wiggling out of warranty in that "great" extended period.

Really? I will beware of the Kia's then.

What do you guys know about subarus. The good, the bad, lets hear it. I did a quick check and driving one will save me some money on insurance.

if you feel like you have to have something nice, then buy somthing newer.

if you don't care what you drive, be economical about it, i've been driving the same $200 beater since december. its been to ohio and back a few times, it just uses about a quart of oil every 500ish miles.

i figure if it dies, i'll take it to the scrap yard, pull the whells off, scrap the car get about $160-170 for the car, then get another $70-100 for the wheels.

I love my Subaru... I've put about 30K on my WRX so far and I haven't had any issues *knock on wood* I bought mine new in 06. The stock Impreza isn't a bad little car.

I live in colorado, it seems like everyone has a subaru out here, supposedly very well made car.

                              Sure has a following.
