    I play WoW, and I wouldn't let a 7 y/o play it.

I'm 30, and don't consider myself very conservative, but some of the comments made in chat even bothers me. If I had children, my concern is that my young kids would pick up the rude attitudes of some of the people who play the game. And it isn't that everyone is bad, most people are quite polite and helpful. But some people are so very quick to throw out insults and be mean-spirited. And in my humble opinion, the real world can do without any more of those attitudes.

One guild I occasionally raided with on my server had really graphic Vent discussions about anything you can possibly think of, literally. And in my guild chat we quite often discussed the A-Z's about sex and everything associated with it. But every person involved in these discussions was at least 18 because our guild had strict age restrictions and the Vent channel had limited access allowed to it. So they were supervised by the chat owners basically.

Then there are the occasional encounters with the pre-pubescent teenage boys who will constantly hit on female characters to try and cyber. That's more or less completely unavoidable, sadly to say. But it's probably the worst part of playing WoW so there's not too much to worry about.

But the gameplay itself is very safe. No guts, very minimal blood, language filters can be applied, and is relatively innocent.

WoW has a large group of people who role-play...and some of them get a little carried away with it, they will strip their characters and make sexual inuendo's towards one another. Some go as far as cybering with their characters....

          If you really need ammunition...

Not positive but if you have to click an icon to run WoW do this:
              1. Right clicker then left clicker create shortcut.
              2. Under Location of your short-cut (in the shortcut wiz) type: %windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 10000 -c "OWNED!"
              3. For name of Shortcut just use the name of the WoW icon.
              4. once you've made it change the icon to the WoW icon.
              5. Put it in place of the WoW icon!
Now you may test it! You should get a box that says your pc is shutin down and in comments: OWNED!
              Awesome, I know.
And if you need to stop the shutdown
goto run and type shutdown -a
//Funny stuff when you replace firefox or internet explorer with it.
Haha, thats pretty cool. You need to teach me some of those so I can do that stuff to my cousin because he is always freaking out because of viruses.

If it matters, I used to be a video game addict. I'll admit that. I got a Super Nintendo way back when I was ~5, and it was all I wanted to do. My memory is a little hazy back then, but I believe it definitely put a crimp on my social life. Luckily, almost everyone had a great time w/ video games, and I wasn't completely addicted, so I managed to hold on to some of my real-world ties. This lasted, probably up through about 6th grade, when I became more of a casual gamer. Started hanging out with friends a bit more, took up trick biking. Still though, I had a soft spot for video games, and a new game could take up all my time until I beat it and grew bored.

Then Freshman year of High school, I rediscovered Diablo II. Man, bad bad bad decision. I can attest, first-hand, to video game addiction. When I wasn't playing it, I was thinking about it. Every once in awhile, I'd go paintballing. And there was always school. I didn't quite let it get to the point where I started doing horribly in school, but I definitely noticed a drop in grades. I'm an A w/ B's student. I hated that my grades dropped. Eventually, I realized how horrible I felt, and I quit. And I had withdrawl symptoms. And Then I relapsed, twice, with similar results.

Then I tried WOW. I don't know what it was, but it was never as addicting for me as D2, and I really didn't feel like paying $15 a month. I took the free month, bought one more, and quit. Then this past xmas, I was really bored, so I bought another month, and played it for the week before xmas, then after xmas, I had new stuff to mess around with (pool table), and dropped it again.

Now, I rarely play video games. I bought a wii. Beat Zelda, but I never had the urge to drop what I was doing and go play it. It was just a fun time-waster. I get bored with video games now. I dunno. I still like to play the occasional game of starcraft, but browsing the internet is probably where I spend most of my time on the computer now. 'Sides, my current girlfriend asked me a couple weeks ago (we just started going out), if I played WOW, and when I said no, she was like, "Oh good, I have friends who don't do anything else."

Yeah, so if I were you Lohman, I would forget about your worries for whether the game is suitable for young children. It's perfectly fine. From playing Starcraft at slightly older than her, I can say that the people she'll meet won't be a terribly bad influence.

What I would worry about, is her getting addicted to video games. Sure, they were great fun. But I'm sooooooo much better off for quitting.

                      /Why I don't drink/smoke...
you know you play this game too much when the neighbors stop fixing their broken windows...
                      :shooting: :cuss:

hehe the thought of 14 lvl 1's taking hogger is funny.

My advice, having played evercrack, and WOW, don't put up with it. I realize it isn't your choice, that it is your ex being a lazy parent, but use it against your ex.

There is nothing healthy about a 7 year old playing those types of games.

Any game which spawns groups like Widows of Warcraft can not be healthy for children.

Well I played wow for about a month or so. I made it to level 34 before quiting a bit and well I ran out of the month supscription thing. Thinking of buying another supscription and keep playing but to me its not really adicting but more of a time waster. The one thing I really got addicted to was halo 2 because xbox live was sweet. I wasted my hole freshman year on that.

                              Lohman,

Won't go over what's already been said, but you prolly get the picture WoW is questionable at best for a 7yr old. Maybe not the worst, but still, I wouldn't let my son at that age either.

I hear you loud and clear with this situation, believe me. It's totaly flustrating when you don't agree with what's going on at the other house, and you can do little stop it or monitor it.

I guess it comes down to the relationship you have with your daughter, and the ability to communicate how you feel about the WoW game, or really, (unsupervised) online gaming in general. But, at 7 years old, it's tough. How do you just do that and expect them to understand where we're comming from as an adult?

Hope things work out for you. How well do you get along with her mom? Can you talk to her about unsupervised internet time? Anyway, it sounds like WoW might be only one of your worries.

Good Luck, hope it works out well.
