Well, here is the deal. I share a house with a roomate. Today he told me that $100 cash is missing from his room. He says that he knows that it is not me and wants to know everyone that was over in the past two days. There was only one of my "friends" over in that time that had a chance to steal it. There was no sign of forced entry, and nothing else missing. IM pretty sure this dude stole the money. My roomate wants to kick his butt if he doesn't get the money back. IM pretty sure this dude will deny. What I want to know is if I should offer to pay my roomate back, but I don't want him to think that I had something to do with the situation, but I feel absolutly terrible about the whole thing. I would never invite someone into my house that I didn't trust completly. I feel violated, let alone how angry my roomate is. Just wanted some advice on repayment and if anyone has simillar stories on how they handled it. Like I said, I dont want him to think I took the money or let someone else take it, but I feel completely responisible. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

If I were in that situation, I would tell your "friend" that your roommate knows he took it, and if he denies it or won't give it back, just offer to pay your roommate back. Tell him you feel partially responsible for letting your "friend" into your apartment and just want to make things right. Sure, you end up being down $100, but there won't be nearly as much tension in your home.
Best of luck! -

Seeing as there is no way to prove the guy took it, ask him. If he denies it then simply assume he didn't take it. If you think the guy took the money, offer to pay your roomy the $100. Your roomy should of course refuse your offer. Don't let the guy back in the house, or put a pad lock on the door. Both of you should pad lock your doors. Keep valuables either under lock and key or up your anus.Originally posted by behemoth1. Find out of kid actually took it.

Fighting is not really the answer. Of course you could try and fight the guy, maybe he woops your butt. Then what, you get a beat down and your buddy loses his $100 anyway.Due to the objections of a certain Canadian, this space is now for rent.Comment

A few things have come to my attention in the past day. 1. The amount of cash missing is exactly my roommate's part of the rent for next week. 2. No one can prove that he actually had the money. 3. It's not responsible to leave any amount of cash lying around the house (We dont live in the best neighborhood) 4. My roomy has been spending most nights at his girlfriend's house. I begining to think that he might use this as an excuse to either not pay his part of the rent or use it as an excuse to start a fight and move out without looking bad. I've decided not to offer to pay him back as I can't be held responsible every time something goes missing and I dont want to start the precident of me paying him back everytime something goes missing, what if it's $500 next time? Anyone looking for a new place to live in NE Ohio? Any thoughts on my new line of thinking? Thanks. It came to a point in my life when it was either pay the rent or buy paintball gear.
