AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
Just got back, have to go to work, have a bunch of ideas for the feb 9 game, lots of fun, will talk tonight, etc. etc.
Yeah the main difference is that I'll make us a Private group which means we'll have a ref and be more of a group on the bigger fields.
Old School 626: Thank you sir. I had fun doing my part, but I could definatly use some help next time. Also I'll have to keep track of the money better next time because it's looking like I'm out about $50 for the pizzas and extra cases of paintballs. I have some thoughts to make the Feb. one really good. But that should be a new thread.
Seriously, I had a great time the other day! It was fantastic to some finally meet some of you! I wish we would have time to mingle better, I didn't really get to meet some of you as well as I would have liked. The games were fun, everyone had a GREAT ATTITUDE! Everything was friendly and relaxed. The games were pretty good too! And hanging out for a while at dinner was really nice.
I have a few shots of people in the parking lot I will try to post. Thanks to everyone involved in getting this thing up and running and keeping track of the money and arrangements! It's one less thing the rest of us could potentially screw up. I would also like to thank Lasrsktr for draggin me out and his Buddy Jeff for driving us in his sweet Volkswagon van. I also need to thank Lasrsktr for helping me tech some of my guns and getting my X-mag up and running
Plus, Everyone else who offered some help or service during the day, like Logus for helping me with a tank issue and someone else (can't remember name, sorry) for lending me a barrel cover (no neoprene covers, huh?).
I highly encourage anyone who can attend one of these events to try and make it out for at least one. Next time we'll have to try out some of the nuttier fields. It was great to see some of the other mags I've spotted on the forums over the years in person. And it was cool to see the pumpers really give the others a run for their money on more than one occasion.....there may have been 2 or 3 games where one side got totally rolled on
Special thanks to Sk8ermog for handling the registration and dealing with us miscreants.
It was a great day despite the overcrowding in the recball fields. I say we organize a detail so someone can handle each aspect of the feb 09 event so that nobody stresses.
I'll bring some coolers and a couple of cases of water and ice so we can keep cool. Plus a canopy so we don't bake. Chairs you will have to provide, I break too many of them for me to be a reliable source of these.
Anyone have some tables? apparently we all like to setup near our vehicles and we didn't really utilize the picnic tables there.
Sk8ermog I think can handle the reg process since he knows the field staff.
I think the deal with CC paintball for paint was a great idea had I not already had my own stash. Somebody want to handle this aspect also? Prefferably someone that's decent at record keeping and can maybe setup a pre order so we can do a decent estimate of paint to obtain?
We need somebody on pizza detail. Before we start playing I suggest everybody pony up money for the food so whomever's making the pizza run doesn't have to fork out their money.
We also need to setup a photographer shift. The way we are taking pics now we are missing some great photo ops. I know more than a few of us brought cameras.
Also if we are going to try and hit the recreational fields at SC can we find out week of to see how many private groups are registered to play? If there's too many we can hit the speedball fields and setup camp there?
what a blast it was, thank you again Sk8termog for setting up such an awesome day of paintball. Also the weapons grade paint I purchased at CC was awesome! not a single chop or break in the barrel. It was also nice to be able to put faces behind these screen names on AO. Heres to February 9
Alright, it's been enough of a recuperation time for me. I had an absolute blast, along with the friends who joined me. I've turned a good friend onto the sport, and now my girl doesn't mind it as much. Everyone was, naturally, considerate, honest, and fair, and I had nothing short of a blast playing with you guys. Throughout the days, even with the problems we encountered, nothing really bugged me.
That being said, we need to work out the issues so that Feb 9 is nothing short of spectacular.
THE WHOLE "GROUP" THING
That was hectic. 20 something groups out there along with any walk-ons meant packed parking and little play space. Parking was built up fast, even showing up at 7:15. Took a little time to set up play time, meaning we lost play time. Then we find out that we could've gone to play in any group we could have wanted, and that we weren't going to play as a group. SOLUTION?
We need to know how many groups planning on showing up Feb 9. This will determine where we will park, so that we can park closer together than we did. Canopies and tables would be great to have to set up, and I've seen word of people planning to bring some. If we choose not to go as a group again and wander, we'll go hook up with Advanced Walk-on, and go. They're always short on people anyway. If we are playing as a group, the dog-gone-it we go ASAP.
ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS
Then there was the whole money thing. Mog lost an estimated $50 with the paint and food. We cannot let that happen again. There was no decision on food, and estimates were made for paint. People showed up late to register and pay, delaying mog from getting the tags for tanks and admission even more. While not somethingmajor, this is something that should be fixed. SOLUTION?
After morning rules and announcements, EVERYONE will go to a designated spot (to be decided. I would like someone to set up a canopy with the AO banner, but if we go to the same parking spot, I suggest table 4F). There everyone will pay mog for admission and food. This way, mog will not use his own money. Money for paint that is pre-ordered here on AO will be given to him as well. The paint is good quality, and I suggest everyone try it out, as it is a steal at $25. If you're not sure if you're going to use that second case of paint, or need that second serving of pizza, err on the side of caution and cough up the dough. This will make it much easier on mog, and he can always use extra cash for all the extra work he's doing.
PICTURES WORTH A THOUSAND GRAND PRIZE WINNERS
This is minor, but someone taking pictures would be awesome. I plan on trying to convince my girlfriend to come and take pictures during playtime. Anyone who'd like to bring a camera or skip a game to snap some shots would be thanked profusely.
Also, mog mentioned something about a raffle. I think this would be awesome, but I want to make sure that the details we need to be done are finished before we get to an awesome idea like this. However, I'd like to hear ideas about potential prizes. Maybe people can put in $10 and get a chance to get their marker annodized, etc. etc. Post up, and lets see if we can get this rolling.
So, I'd like to have the day go like this...
We meet up and shoot the breeze in the wee hours of the morning at our designated meeting spot, trying to get as much done as we can (chrono, equipment, etc.). We go to morning rules, then as soon as that's done, we move to our spot and wait for mog, cash waiting eagerly to jump out of our hands and into his. Paint is passed around, we gear up, and we go play. Mog leaves at lunch, and half an hour later appears with pizza, losing no money he was already planning on spending. Eat, chat, and do the raffle. Festivities end, game on. Get everyone exhausted by closing time and have them rush back onto AO to check out all the awesome pics and memories.
i havent been out since last year so this was a very fun outing indeed.
it was great to see familiar faces and to meet new ones!
looking forward to see all of you on the 9th as well!
1. It would be a lot easier to set up in the speedball parking lot. Yes, i know its far but its a lot easier to have tables, chairs and tents up there compared to the parking lot. And a lot less foot traffic. Unless we do get there early enough to snag a few spots right next to the tables that are in the main parking lot.
2. From what I understand, we will have our own ref for next time. During the morning talk they mentioned that private groups will chrono with their refs. So that will save us A LOT of time.
3. Like it was mentioned above, lets all and try to get there early. I know that some have a LOOOONG drive to make. But for the rest of us thats not too far, it'd be a lot easier for everyone to show up early so we can play early.
