Don't forget bsoloman, he said some time ago that he would like to get involved with a tourney team, even if it was just to coach.

Yeah, what he said - don't forget about me!

I really can't commit to playing too much (out of work for a good while now, so money is a major obstacle), but I can certainly help you guys out (time I have plenty of!).

Back in my heyday, I used to be a very good tourney player, in fact I captained one of the better amateur teams for a couple of years and I have won about a dozen tourneys, including IAO 5-man (and 2nd place 10-man) and a 10-man World Cup. I also coached a pro team (Bad Company) for two years. I know all the good training secrets and practice drills.

In short, if you guys are willing to work a little and practice, I can whip you into shape.

I work and go to school in Fort Collins, but live in Loveland...for now.

But anyway, this does sound fun, I'd like to try it... once. But money is always an issue for poor college kids like me! The AO CO day might be the last time I play ball for quite a while, need to save up to get my own place, Books, and general living stuff...
Hey Zero, how much did that Chipley cost ya?

                What's the next step?

I think that one of the potential players needs to volunteer to act as "administrative captain". This person is responsible for such things as scheduling practices, getting info on possible tourneys, handling the team's registrations in terms of both paperwork and finances, and also dealing with travel arrangements, such as hotels.

This player is not to be confused with the onfield captain who is responsible for everything once a tourney starts, including who plays on which squads, walking the fields, strategy and tactics, coin tosses, dealing with refs and scoring issues, etc...

I would suggest that these two roles not be taken on by the same person because frankly, each of them is a lot of work by themselves.

In any case, whoever is going to be administrative captain should volunteer on the thread, and should pick a time and place for a practice. I will be happy to set-up and run the practice so that both captains can participate as players instead of having to sit out and watch over everything.

If no-one gets this going soon, the summer will be over before you know it.

Well I'm willing to do the admin type of stuff, unless someone else wants to.

The MSTS remaining dates (other then the one next week) are as follows (first day is 3 man, 2nd is 5 man)

Aug. 16 Aug. 17 Shut Down Extreme Park
Sept. 13 Sept. 14 Paintball Adventures
Oct. 4 Oct. 5 Paintball Adventures
Nov. 21-23rd at the National Western Complex

I'd highly suggest going with rookie class. Amature teams can have one known pro player, and from what I've been hearing novice has a ton of sandbaggers.

As for practice locations. Hmmm why doesn't everybody post distances to fields so we can get a central one and any restrictions on days (ie you can only practice on mondays or something). Or if anyone has a hookup at a field (paint or air discount) that'd be cool too.

I live in evergreen, so any field in the denver area is the same distance for me. I can only practice weekends though, i'm working 50 or 60 hours a week.

I really hope somebody has a paint hookup, if paint was cheap for us we could practice way more often...

Evergreen for me too, which means any of the Denver fields are good. However, we seem to have some Grand Junction players too, so we may have to alternate occasionally to make it more convenient for everyone. In any case, let's at least get one practice going before try to decide on everything else.

Does anyone know of any fields that allow teams to practice with BYOP. I was reading about the field in Milliken, but it is not an actual field with any services (i.e., air/paint)?

ShooterJM, can you call some of the possible choices and find out what their policy is for team practices, such as days, field fees, air fills for all-day air, and paint prices/BYOP?

Yep, looks like alternating between grand j and here will have to work.

Yeah, I'll call around tonight to see. I know PBA wants teams to call ahead now that more rec players are starting to come out for the summer. I'll check PBA, Shutdown, and APC. The only BYOP field I know of is down in colorado springs, but I'll check around to see if there are exceptions for practices.

I have a pb business but I don't have a field. Boggerman and I recently have been going to Delta which is about 30-45min away from where I live in Palisade, just east of Grand Junction. There is no charge to play if you have your own equip. BYOP/CO2/air. How cheap is that!! It is a new field and currently they only have a wooded area to play which is small but good for 5 man. They are planning on a speedball field and I have a Sup Air field also which I could set up(currently needs some repairs). Co2 is 3.00 for all day and we have high pressure up to 3000(scuba fills). I can provide paint at cost, it's seconds which tends to be out of round and sometimes dimpled but doesn't break in marker. If you have lev 10 bolt this isn't a problem. I agree with the practice games before tourny. It's not a problem for me to travel to Colo Springs or Denver area if I have enough notice(month or 2).I've played against Badcompany. The team I was on was ShellShock and we took 4th place at first tourny we ever went to. It wasn't a national tourny or anything like that but still. The Family had already played 17 tournys that year. I'm not sure about the rules concerning novice/ametuer. I played 2 yrs novice and 1 yr am but haven't played tourny for 2 yrs. If we can put this together this year it would be great or get it rolling for next year. I'm willing to sponser team as mentioned but alot of fields require field paint only. Let me know.
p.s. we can talk more at the July 26th game.

Sounds like a good deal. We should definately plan on a trip out that way for a practice. It is currently up to ShooterJM to settle the first set of arrangements.

Ok so I called APC and PBA. Right now PBA is the cheapest and probably best choice.

APC still requires chronny of 250 or lower and FPO.

I called PBA and here's the deal. Sundays is pretty much team practices, so we'd be sharing the fields with other teams. They have multiple airball fields, but it doesn't sound like hyperball.

The good parts: $10 field fee instead of 20, and BYOP. No word on all day air so it might still be $1 per 1000 psi. Non playing coachs are free. It sounds like the same deal is available on sat, but if there are too many rec players we'd have to alternate games on the airball field. (us, them, us, them, etc) FYI this is the field the last AO day was at.

bsolomon - what's good frequency of practices? once or twice a month?
