    AO NorCal vs. SoCal Interest...

I am sorta stealing Steelrat's idea but I also like the sound of a big California game.

I won't even try setting a date, especially with school starting up for many people, but is there interest (as in "I would drive the distance to get there" interest) in such an event in the future?

Besides the whole school dilemma, we also have to consider the weather. Eventually it does rain in many parts of the state and as I recall it starts as early as mid November and can last till April (making it a hit or miss deal if we set a date during that time).

Then lastly I can see the daunting problem of finding a field that is reasonable for more people in this state. I suspect many of you SoCal guys will be coming from the LA area and NorCal might be as high as SF.

I was thinking that the area around San Luis Obispo would be the fairest location for people coming north or south but I am not aware of any quality fields there. I can check PBReview.com but that is not sub for someone having been there.

Anyone with suggestions, thoughts, ideas or insight? If each of the CA groups were able to pull off games we can do this one if we want to.

Well I know I'd love to play. Only things that stop me are school and not knowing the location. School starts for me the first week of September and goes til almost xmas time. It would be nice to have a neutral field so no players have an advantage by knowing the field layouts. It is a very interesting idea.

thatd be awesome! i dont know about SoCal vs NorCal though, we might have to switch around a little as it seems SoCal has a greater AO population.we'd have to rent a few rooms at some hotel tho, probably buddying up and splitting the room price would be best. remember guys, we'd want to get there the day before as thats a five hour drive at least, even if the field is right in the middle of the state.

I posted a topic just like this that seems to be gone now. Back around the time when we were setting up NorCal AO1, Covadsucks had mentioned the idea, so I posted. Did not get many replies from either North or South.

I think there are as many NorCal AO players as there are SoCal.

What I think would be the real problem is the fact that ALL Cal AO players seem to have trouble agreeing on times and dates.

While I'd be interested in playing, I would not want the job of trying to set it up.

            I'll Set Up Again

Well, I have no problem spearheading this deal.

Possible fields that I see off the top of my head:

            1). Urban Quest Paintball www.urbanquestpaintball.com .

            Located in Oxnard.

I know nothing about them other than what I read from www.pbreview.com and the site. Problem is that its virtually in LA (probably 5 hours from Monterey and 7-8 from SF)

2). Woodsalk (now knows as Breakout) www.woodstalk.com .

            Located in Monterey

Its got a neat setup with the whole jail house and buildings (urban setup). Sadly you do have to shoot 240 fps so you will be lobbing those rounds .Problem is that it's Monterey with is about a 5-7 hour drive from LA. About 2-2.5 hours from SF.

            3). The Adventure Game (T.A.G) www.adventuregame.com

Located in Wattsonville (45 min north of Monterey)

hehe I had to put this one in as I like it so much. It would be a nice place to go except that its so far north for you LA guys. They only allow white paint but you can bring your own.

Is there anything closer to San Luis that someone knows of?

sps and i would definately be down for a big state game. i do think that socal has us beat in the xmag population, but we can still take em. and were definate going to that chevys afterward.

I'll step up for AO Norcal...after January, Norcal will be one more XMag deeper...

SLO is the midway point between LA and San Jose...it's roughly 200 miles away and a perfect midpoint..Somewhere near Visalia would work as well, such as Hanford.

I think the best way to do it is to schedule it for midday saturday through midday/afternoon sunday.. that way people can leave early morning.. be there by 12 or 1.. play all afternoon.. then we can wake up again sunday morning and play until the early afternoon..

we could setup a small little 2 or 3 team tourney with enough people that way.. have the qualifying rounds sat and the finals/playoffs sunday... what would be *Really* cool is if we could just get a field for the evening and just camp out right on the field (I'm sure that would take alot of planning and alot of people).. I wouldn't mind driving up near SF if this would happen..

                        We Must Find a Field

That could work but, as much fun as it is to plan out "when" we play, we really ought to find a "where" to play. I am kinda thinking that there ARE no fields in the area we are looking for.

If that is the case we then have to decide on the best alternative.

So far it appears that the 2 closest fields (relatively) would be the Urban Quest Place in Oxnard (the most northern of the SoCal fields) or Breakout (Woodstalk) in Monterey (the most southern of the NorCal fields).

Unless one of you guys has (or knows someone with) lots of land that they would like to have us play on, I think some of us would be making a several day trip.

Perhaps if we are unable to find a middle ground field, we can a "take in a fellow AO member" deal If we choose a NorCal field, we can house some of you SoCal people so you can rest up for the next day and vice versa.

Ideally though, we should find a better location.
