AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
Hey, I try to plan scenario games around my town, and I don't want them to be old, boring scenarios. What are some scenarios that you guys get tired of? Please let me know.
The closest I've seen to repetitive scenarios were the three games in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, one game each year after the release of the movie.
Put on by MXS and held at EMR, all three were vastly different in structure even though there were characters played by the same person each year.
Is any scenario boring? I think that's up to the game operators imagination, the field owners pocketbook, and the players themselves.
I would have to agree with that statement. Scenario games are completly left to the players imagination. If your not open minded about trying something new, then it will be a confusing day and just another paintball outing.
As a Scenario Event Promoter, we offer over 100 different themes and storylines to the field owners and try to change them each year. The field owners are the ones who pick the storyline for their event and we try to personalize it to fit their field. We only reuse our most popular storylines 3 times within a one year span so we dont get to repetative. For example, STARGATE is our most popular event. We ran this twice this year and we have one more scheduled in December for our STARGATE theme in Southern Illinois at
AS PAINTBALL. Our storylines are so wide spread that each field owner has several good storylines to choose from. Some storylines we used this year were;
KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE
TAZMANIA
STARGATE
S.W.A.T.
RIOT POLICE
WILD WILD WEST
SPECIAL OPS
WARLORDS & DRAGONS
And the list goes on. We host over 35 events each year so we work very hard to keep the game fresh.
The easiest games to host are the Military events. We throw tons of props onto the field for our games and its pretty easy to just go buy Military supplies at the local surplus stores.
Not to bash MXS in any way, but hosting the same theme all year long is also very easy to do, prop wise that is.
My suggestion, keep it as fresh as you can so the players keep coming back. Were off to the East Coast in November for the second event at SPLAT BROTHERS PB in one year. When we do these events (Unless its a Trilogy), we try to completly change the entire event. The field layout, props, missions, themes, etc. will be totally different this time round. A good Scenario Promoter will put up to 6 months of planning into each event to make it an awesome game. Our company always makes sure EVERYONE gets their moneys worth. You cant always make everyone happy, but thats also part of the open mindedness I spoke of earlier for those individual players.
Well, I said more than enough on this one. Good luck.
Being in the middle of the Rockies, I have to travel, normaly quite a distance, to play Scenario. One thing I tire of is taking the travel time to make a "Scenario" and it turns out to be the same old Big Game format with a loose story line. To me that's not true Scenario, I prefer the role-playing format that Viper, Dollack, MXS, and BlackCat produce. Pyroman has nailed it down, the more time and effort you as the producer put into the game, the better it should turn out. Now you can't MAKE players role-play or get "into" the game, but hopefully you can have good command staffs on both sides and they will make the game all it can be. The story line is only the precursor of what the game can be, and isn't always that important. True, it's fun to be up-to-date and use newer video games, books or movies so people understand what the game is all about, but some of the funner games I've attended were original ideas dreamed up by the producer and staff.
The games I prefer have regular missions that are worth points, all the standard roles (check out the GSRP), a few character roles, some props, and a few special characters with abilities tied to the story line.

You are not qualified to make this statement; you have no clue how much time, money and effort goes into every game we produce.
Your comment serves no purpose here but to foster resentment and bad feelings between producers.

I've got to say that MXS games are the smoothest and best run games we've attended, period. I believe that it is the unbelieveable amount of planning they do that makes their games this way. Everything from the basic player cards, to organization and placement of missions on the field, value of missions based on difficulty and placement, picking a variety of quality fields throughout the country, props, the story line and much more that I'm sure we don't even see.
Even though we're not much into the role playing and story, we've chosen these events because we've seen that the planning and time put in is directly proprtionate to the quality of the event.
Props to MXS for running the best events that we've had the pleasure of attending.
True they do have a year long "theme", but every event is completely different from the next. Each are a "stand alone" story-line and new event.
I have attended a year long running event, Viper's "Shadow Wars". Great concept with your "character" gaining experiance and greater power with each game attended, kinda like a RPG type game. Even with this concept each game was different and a stand-alone game for those that only attended one of the many events through-out the year.

By playing in way to many MXS games over the past few years and being a Scenario Event Promoter for over 4 years, I do feel Im more than qualified to make that statement MOTHER.
MXS puts on 12 events a year. We do 35 events each year. And you dont think we know how much time, effort, and money goes into each event.
If you look back at the statement, we werent lookin gto bash anyone. Im sure im going to get hammered by all the MXS chronies out there, but remember that its hard to bash our events if you have never been to one.
With all the MXS games we have played, I still have not seen MOTHER or PACMAN on the actual playing field during play. PROPS?? Where are they at the MXS games? Computer chips and slight field modifications dont do it for me. All im saying is try one of our games and your sure to see the difference. Were extremly organized, tons of props, great prizes, and everything that any producer out there puts into an event, and so much more.
Were still the lowest priced traveling Scenario Event Promoters in the U.S. and we give huge discounts, player incentives, and SPP memberships to our players.
These are Role Playing Games. You need to physically be on the playing field to see what makes a game into an event. Everyone whos about to bash this reply just remember, im a player too. I was like most of you that only played a couple of events each year with the same promoter. One word, BORING. Mix it up a little. Im not telling you to "Please come to our games", go play a Dollack game or a Viper series so you can see wha ta difference it is.
I still cannot beleive what MXS charges for their events. Thats fine if you get your moneys worth. 24 hour games? You may get 14 - 16 actual playing hours on the field. They rarely go throughout the night plus with insertion times, dinner breaks, orientation and re orientation times your time is reduced tremendously.
Try reading the MXS missions when they come in. Ours are there waiting for you when the first mission is over. 12 hours nonstop means exactly what it states. No waiting at our events. All of our missions add up t oan awesome story throughout the day. One mission may have up to 20 different objectives in it. (Organized with paper and pen at the base for the players of course)
I didint want to have it out with MXS and I thought we were on good terms. Im probably going overboard a little but we see what the field owners are obligated to do for the MXS games and we feel its rediculous. Their minimums are so high plus the cut on paint. I still dont know why field owners have them back. Were picking up all the fields your losing and youll be amazed at the response from the field owners that we have already visited that your going back to.
To answer your question about ols scenarios, play an MXS game in about August/September. By that time their so use to the same old event since the beginning of the year that they usually forget about the important game information and only want to promote their next upcoming event.
Im sure im in for an earful and I really didnt want to do this with someone I once had some respect for, until I opened my eyes and seen how to make a good game into an awesome event.
So until you or anyone from MXS plays in one of our events, then I would have to say your not qualified to make any type of response to this thread. I apologise fo rbeing so harsh, but let the truth be known that the old MXS games are just that, OLD.
See, now that didnt take long at all now did it?? OK Mr Wright, I would be happy to agree with about half of what you said. The other half is so rediculous that its not even worth commenting about. Why in the hell would I ever want to go to Pat and Diannes house?? I think your forgetting one huge thing here, IM A PROMOTER TOO. Yes, I do write ALL of our games. Yes I am on the field miost of th eday assuring the players are having a great time. Our company does EVERYTHING MXS does, and 100% more.
15 props? We use 15 props for one mission. We do re use our props at times from game to game, but only if the events are on opposite ends of the U.S. We have two warehouses full of props and they keep getting bigger and better at each event. When was the last time MXS built a replica of the SG1 STARGATE and placed it on a paintball field?. All ive ever seen are a few computer chips. Pyrotechnics? Uh, why do you think I go by PYROMAN?? Figure that one out yet? Sorry, but were a little more advanced than Bird Bangers.
Now me and Mr Wright have gone round and round on things before. What I dont get is out of all the promoting we do, being a local Illinois company located very close to AGD, and hosting so many local events, why havnt we seen you at any of our events? I dont show up at an MXS game and point out everything that goes wrong that day, id get writers cramp if I did that. I go as a player. Now that we have been in business for a few years and hosting our own events, I can see what it takes to put on an awesome event. I dont feel the players are getting their moneys worth out of an MXS game, thats all. And how can you talk bad about our events when first of all, youve never played in one and second, you dont even know what we charge or what our commission for the event is?
You people need to wake up. Going back to my original statement, all I said was for players not to get tunnel vision out there. If your a real Scenario Player you should be open minded. Try playing more than one promoters game in a year. We tell our own regular players the same thing. Hell, if anything it should help MXS. If their game is so great, everyone should be running back to them after trying someone else, right? Personally, theres only one promoters events that I have enjoyed playing since we have been in business and thats Wayne Dollack.
As for your sponsorship offer Mr Wright, I think we both know where you can put it. Magazine subscription offers are great at times, but if I tak eon any more magazines, trust me, it will come from someone above you. You forget, we work for the same company.
If anyone else wants to make a sensible, thought out reply, I would be happy to respond to it. Replies like the one above me are not worth responding to anymore. Im sticking to my original statements and until anyone out there plays an SPP event, then nobody is qualified to make a negative statement against our company.
Hi. I have never played any of your scenario games, Mr. Pyroman.

Sorry, but not worth my time to respond to your completely false remarks. You need to get a clue.
ESKIMO
Sorry, but we cant be everywhere in the United Staes. Arizona is on our list of fields in the future.
Our missions are 100% pre setup and take over 40 hours to prepare once we get to the playing field. We show up a full week in advance to assure a great game with all of our preparations. The base ref has all of the mission cards and their all timed out. Most of our games are 12 hour nonstop events. No reinsertion times. There are hospitals and check in stations on the playing field. Each mission is written in great detail with a piece of the storyline in each one. Each mission will tell you where to go, what your objectives are, what time to leave for the mission and what time to be back from the mission. When you return, you bring all of the props from the previous mission with you and place them in the drop box so the ref can tally up your points. As soon as you return from one mission, the base ref will hand you the next mission card. It works like this all day with 5 Platoons running on each team. (Each base has a game clock posted inside) Its a great system and works very well. We dont like to see any players sitting around at our events. Thats the one thing I never liked about playing a Scenario game, sitting around. The scrap paper is in the base so the players dont forget about what the objectives are (Radios work great too).
Players come off the field when they want to take a break. We have no scheduled breaks and the game plays on with or without the players that are on break. If your thinking the players can look ahead at the missions to cheat, they can. But, the props dont get dropped onto the field until just prior to that mission going out. We have our Command Center Staff, Head Ref, Missionaries, Mercenaries, and Prop Master all coordinate the event throughout the day.
Were very cautious and aware with our PYROTECHNICS. If were in a dry climate state or area, we wont use anything dangerous. The more players we have, the more PYRO we will use. And yes Mr Wright, we have used well over 2k worth at many of our events.
I did not know about the STARGATE at Herbies, so I apologise for that. Herbies may also be on our list for next year.
Just because were reducing our general event calendar does not mean that were cutting back our events in any way, shape, or form. We post our top 6 events on our website front page to give that field top billing for a full month and a half on top of all our other promotions.

Finally, someone actually read what I was tryin gto say, THANK YOU!!
I hope this clears up a few things and misconceptions about our events. Our games are totally action packed. Our roles are set up where you may use 3 cases of paint or 500 balls, depending on the role. The filed owners set the paintball price, oh, once again Mr Wright, you wouldnt know that because you havnt made it to any of our games.
(Sorry, but spanking Mr Wright is fun for me)
