    Tac 1 chopping paint

Please help. I finally got my tac tuned with no leaks. My gun is about 4 months old. I am using the stock barrel, sub zero feedneck, vl eyeforce loader, and the short red spring. I also have ule installed.
THE PROBLEM: During single shots I have no breaks. As soon as I rapid fire, the gun blends every time.

Then its not tuned properly. Sizing the carrier is only the first step. Bounce test your paint to make sure its not cheese.

      Check your paint first...
then you need to tune your level ten
do a search on how to do it...but i'll give you the short version.....first slide off the bolt form the valve..remove your carrier in your lvl 10.
slide your carrier ont your bolt stem. holding the carrier dangel the bolt...it should slide off after some wiggling. if its on too tight which seams to be the problem...using the same o-ring go up a carrier size..then test it out again..once you have the right carrier start with adding 2 or 3 shims then air it up...if it leaks down the barrel remove a shim...keep doing this untill it stops leaking.

      your ult is another story!!!

      hope this helps

Don't forget, springs are part of the tuning.

If you are at the correct velocity, have the correct carrier, but are still blending, use a longer mainspring.

I understand how to tune but I don't understand the signs and symptoms of bad tuning if that makes sense. I just thought as long as I had no leak down the barrell or bolt stick i was good to go. BTW I believe I do have the correct carrier size because if I go up or down a size I have barrel leak. Can someone please make sense of the shims and the cause and effect of using to many or not enough. Thanks in advance.

shims add a balance to your lvl 10 ...makes it softer on the paint in case you pinch a ball
place as many as you can without any leak

Thanks, what is the max allowed? I currently have 2 or 3. Also the correct amount of shims should stop ball breaks at rapid fire right?

I don't think there is a max allowed but if you add too many you will hit other problems with the bolt not resetting.

I don't believe this to be true. Add shims to combat bolt stick. Start at 2. If you experience bolt stick, add one at a time until the bolt resets reliably. Tune for bolt stick by sticking a squeegie either down the barrel or feed tube to impede the bolt.

Once you get the largest carrier that does not leak, your carrier is fine.
If you are still breaking paint at the correct velocity, use a longer mainspring because the bolt is hitting the ball too hard and needs the additional resistance of a longer mainspring.

                        Follow these steps in order.
                        1. Break in carrier o-ring with 1000 shots.
                        2. Move broken-in white o-ring to largest carrier that does not leak.
                        3. If bolt sticks on squeegy test, add shims until it resets reliably.
                        4. Chrono marker to field speed. (this is important, don't just do it by sound)
                        5. If gun breaks paint (test with no loader and make an electrical tape string for paintball to hang only halfway in breach) use a longer mainspring (on the contrary, if bolt continuously "LVL 10's" or "chuffs" use a shorter mainspring).
                        6. Profit.

Thanks again for the help. I'm surprised Im not as frustrated as I should be. I have literally broken this gun down to parade rest over 150 times trying to tune it using the help of these forums. When I bought the gun it came with 3 springs. Now what Im comprehending with the springs is that I have to find the right spring for MY gun. Its not a matter of tuning my gun to work with the red spring, or the long spring. So in other words the long spring may work perfect for me but for another tac-1 only the red one works. It this correct?

i try to tune my markers with the middle spring...the gold one
are you walking this marker or just single finger? waht kind of hopper are you using?
also have you oiled up everything while changing things up???

I was using fresh paint in a vl eyeforce loader. Also I keep the marker well oiled, if not too oiled. I also shoot the excess oil with the barrell off. I am only able to fire the gun with no problems using single shot. Things start messing up when I try to rapid fire. The paint chops like crazy. Sometimes the bolt won't reset but thats on;y when I gently press and the trigger to try and walk it or whatever. What is the difference between "short stroking" and "walking the trigger"? I have to fully depress the trigger when I fire or sometimes the trigger will go dead and the bolt sounds like its recharging with air then It will fire again.
