In response to the topic of this thread, I don't see how a nubbin could really induce any decent spin on a ball. The nubbin is really only a minor contact on the ball, and it is right at the breech. When Tom did that research with a high speed camera and a clear barrel, I'm sure he would have noticed and checked for any spin put on the ball by the nubbin.
Also, the nubbin couldn't act like the patch on a z-body because a z-body needs very tight bore paint and a large bore barrel (I'm assuming you had at least a decent paint-barrle match?). This is aside from the fact that the patch on a z-body has a great deal more contact with the ball than a nubbin does.
As far as people claiming that cockers can outshoot other guns, you are proof that a little knowledge is dangerous. Clearly, some of you have paid partial attention to either a physics class or a calculus class and immediately distorted what you heard. Distance is a product of velocity and time, mass has nothing to do with it. A ball cannot accelerate after it has left the barrel because nothing is accelerating it, except gravity, which pulls downward(duh).
I have a very good reason why a cocker would outshoot a mag on the field, and I think that most people would agree with me. It is called the placebo effect. Some guy is using his friends cocker at the field, and he is sure that somewhere he heard that a cocker can shoot really far. In fact, he's been thinking that for about a week, ever since his friend said he could use his cocker on gameday. So now this guy is actually shooting the cocker, and, hey it does shoot farther. A lot farther. Don't ask this guy to back it up quantitatively, but wowee, everyone was right. Thanks for those sugar pills doc, I'm cured.
