    68 rebirth

Played last weekend for the first time in 10+ years... Mom sent out my old mag from back in day and it needs some love. What parts do I need to get this going? photo (16).JPGphoto (17).JPG Thanks!

Or a bottle on that reg. It may fire fine with oil. I'd have a parts kit coming for it though.

Check the orings. The regulator seat oring will need to be replaced, especially if you take the valve apart. They get hard and the regulator pin assembly as well as the back half sealing edge won't line up properly with the indentations created by use, once it is disturbed.

A rebuild kit is probably a good place to start. That way you know everything is fresh.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

Thanks for the feedback, I've ordered a rebuild kit, a level 10 upgrade and a new tank. Hope to be playing soon! I've been told there are a few guys playing with mags out here.

Update: I took the gun to my local shop and the tech installed a new tank and had the gun firing. Brought it home and installed the Level 10 bolt following instructions found on this forum. The gun will no longer fire, pull the trigger and nothing. When the air is connected I can hear a slight leak in the barrel. I replaced all the O rings and lubed it up nicely. What now?

                Appreciate the feedback!
                I am not Koa.
                Cheers

If a level 10 bolt will not fire, the velocity setting is not high enough or the carrier size is too tight. If you followed the directions, you probably don't have any shims installed, so that can be ruled out as a reason for the leak. A worn sear can cause the same issue.

Sear looks fine compared to pics of a new one. No shims by the carrier, carrier goes on smooth but doesn't fall off when held vertically.
It's leaking from the regulator o-ring area now, I've replaced that o-ring and inspected it. When I turn velocity WAY down it stops leaking but the gun won't fire, seems like it isn't gassing up at all. There's also plenty of air in the tank.

okay, got it working, no leaks, and it fires. I used no shims, the shortest bolt spring, lots of oil. It wouldn't fire with the red (medium length) spring.
I placed a pen in the breach and the bolt just touched it and retreated. At first it stuck and did not 'recharge' so I used a smaller carrier and it's working fine.
How many shots are expected from a 45/45?

I'm not sure if you know, but it looks like you have an Oh Pawlak automag, not just a standard 68. I always get a kick out of seeing what Oh Pawlak did with automags back in the 90's. Check out this post for more info....

                          Welcome back btw!

Thanks for the info Bunny! I bought the gun back in '98 from a shop in Indianapolis. The guys at the shop made a big deal about the gun being custom and so on, they called it the 'cow mag'. Look forward to playing, thanks!

Since you have installed a level 10 in an older mag, you will also have to replace the regulator piston assembly with one of the new higher pressure versions. The older ones were designed to vent at a much lower pressure than the level 10 operates with the stiffer springs. Even with the smallest spring, you are probably operating dangerously close to the safety release pressure.

If the bolt stuck and the valve didn't recharge, that's a sign that the carrier is too tight, not too loose. You should have installed the next larger carrier size, not the next tighter one. The fact that it is firing now is good but it is probably because you broke the sticking surface when you reinstalled carrier oring or you also changed the oring with the carrier which changed the parameters. If the gun sits for a while in a game, it will probably stick again if you used the same carrier oring and made it tighter. Since you have it firing now, install the next larger carrier. Always use the same white carrier oring in each carrier you install. Keep going up to the next larger carrier until you find one that leaks when sitting at rest. Then go back to the last one that did not leak. That will be the proper carrier size.
