I know what you mean. Supposedly, theres an abandoned corrections facility by where I live. People all over go there to play. Its down here in Miami, Fl. I'll let you guys know if its a cool deal or not.

Anyway, this thread has been out for about a week now and no ones been able to help me. Thanks to all you dudes that gave me pointers and ideas. So far the solution I found on the site seems to be the better one. Hopefully someone will come forward with a cool idea.

My friend is working on his own M4 conversion for his Mag. I'll post pics when he's done.
I don't know if anybody else noticed this, but on newer mags, they've stopped pre-drilling the back bottle adapter holes on the rail assembly. This is actually helpful. My friend is drilling new holes in the rail at the standard 3/4in. spacing of a bottom line attachment. Then, just put a standard straight bottom line CA adapter and buy an M4 stock from this place: www.funsupply.com.

Thats a decent idea (put an adapter in the ASA) but wouldn't that make it tilt down
        and lose the replica look?

Looking at the pics it seems like they just put a sleeve of black metal over the valve, anchored it somehow and then screwed the stock into that sleeve.

So to make one you'd need a cylinder of metal, drill out the center to fit over the valve, tap one end to fit the stock threads and then cut a piece out of the bottom to fit around the body rail.

I know thats a simplistic explanation but the CAR-15 stock on my phantom was done in much the same way.

Thsnks a million. You gave me the solution. I'll let you know what I can do. Its sounds pretty simple. One thing, did you have to do any drilling to the stock, or were you able to create threading for the tube attacked to the valve? I would really apreciate an answer back on this. Thanks again for the solution man.

In my case yes, the stock itself was milled to fit on the back of my phantom, it just so happened that the ID of the stock fit the OD of the phantom. But you could do the same thing with a cylinder of metal, and that cylinder would slip over the valve on the mag, and the stock would screw into the cylinder. An adapter if you will.

I had a thought, find a piece of pipe whose ID that fits the OD of the mag valve and tap the back to fit the stock threads. Then anchor the "cylinder" (pipe) to the valve with set screws. The valve is made of heavy steel so the set screws won't hurt it.

Just wanted to talk about my new marker for a bit...

Hey, RATM... Vance (the guy who builds these) does make an M-14, which is the upgraded model of the M-1 (the civilian version is known as the M-1A). I have to say, IT'S AWESOME. And built around a 'mag, to boot... (Check out my sig pic...just got it recently)

Krom: Are you sure the back half of the mainbody needs to be "sawed off"? I saw the M-4 Automag at Vance's when I picked up my M-14, and it certainly didn't look hacked. I know he told me that he leaves all the base guns as unmodified as possible.

SWATPuppy: As far as I know, he doesn't "chop up" firearms to make paintball guns; he makes many of the parts himself, and the rest are spare parts from gun parts dealers. Pick up a copy of Gunlist or Shotgun News, you'll see literally hundreds of companies selling replacement parts for old military rifles.

For anyone else interested, I recommend Vance's work wholeheartedly. As I mentioned, I purchased an Automag-based M-14 from him, and I'm in love. It's not for everyone, I agree (aesthetics aside, it's nearly 4 feet long, and over 7 pounds without paint or air... not a lot of people want to carry a monster like that onto the paintball field). I only play recreational and scenario paintball (go ahead, tourney boys, call me a newbie! ), so it's not a disadvantage for my style of play.

I was a little leery of how the trigger would work; he uses the original sear but with a linkage attached to the new trigger. Turns out I didn't need to worry; the trigger is longer than a stock 'Mag's, but it's much lighter, and still "crisp". I can shoot it just as fast as the stock trigger, if that matters to anyone.

I also wondered how difficult it would be to clean; with the marker mounted for the most part inside various housings, it didn't look all that accessible. Of course, I was wrong again. The whole thing field-strips with 3 screws; after that, disassembly is the same as any 'Mag. In fact, the only part of the 'Mag that's modified is the sear and body rail; if you have a second body rail, you can convert the 'mag back to the standard form surprisingly quickly. Oh, it comes with a SP All-American barrel, but many aftermarket barrels will fit.

Vance, the builder, was helpful and informative when I was trying to decide what model to buy, and even more helpful after I picked it up. Fortunately, I live relatively near him, so I was able to see basically his entire collection. (The M-60 was incredible, but that's another story. As Will Smith said, "I have got to get me one of these..." ) He showed me on the spot how to open it up for cleaning and maintenance, gave me some tips, and even had some advice when I mentioned that I was thinking of converting it to an electronic trigger for the scenario games (full-auto, baby...). I have met very few people (or companies) in the paintball business that even come close to his level of service (yes, AGD's up there too).

The website, if you didn't see it above, is http://www.extremesportsandhobbies.com.

If you want to know more, PM me... this is already pretty long.
Everybody else seems to have a picture of their 'Mag in their sig, so what the heck; here's mine:

Why? So you can try to make it look like an assualt rifle? Why don't you just play airsoft? Keep the real gun stuff to real guns please.

I respect your opinion. I just dig the tac capabilities of a telestocock. It's become quite a popular deal. Tippman and Kingman offer them. They just need a kit for automags.

The guys that everyone rags on on the field, (pros, paint rainers, etc) are the guys that make this sport popular. To them I say kick some more Newbie ***!

LET ALL ASPECTS OF PAINTBALL RULE! GOTTA LOVE THE GAME!

                          Ick...

That's one of those Chinese paintball guns. Yeah, it looks good, and it's a neat idea, but it's got more problems than it's worth.

Here's a link to a discussion on another forum about a gun made by the same company, the S-4 (double barrelled, wooden stock - a nice idea, if it worked)

Guns from Qian Wei (the company that makes them) don't seem to work well. Many well-known airsmiths refuse to touch them. They tell stories of parts falling off (like ASA's, barrels, important things). Or of the one that required a 5-ton press to remove the bolt from the body.

The M-4 has additional problems... it only works with .43 caliber paintballs (no, that's not a typo), for example. It has a very complicated operating mechanism; if the S-4 (which is a modified VM clone - one of the simplest paintball designs out there) had such major problems, I don't want to be the one trying to troubleshoot the M-4.

Maybe someone who actually has one can post their experience; I have yet to hear of anyone on this side of the Pacific shooting one, though.
