Mags have less blowback, Mags are more way more consistant, Mags dont have any shootdown. and all moving parts are enclosed, unlike the M98.

        Mag vs M98

I have both and they booth work great if all you do is play rec ball! The 98's that I have owned were very reliable and pretty consistant too! They work about the same on CO2 or HPA. If you have an aluminum valve body and bolt they suck hard on a cold day! I may be wrong, but I think MRMAG was referring to the plastic valve body and bolt that comes in all newer M98's. The 98 is highly upgradeable as are the Mag's. You guys say that the electronic kit for the 98 is expensive! So, what, a Retro valve isn't cheap? They both make a huge difference! The stock 98 barrel sucks! So does a stock Mag barrel!! Almost all stock barrels do! Mags are a love/hate relation. I have owned 16 of them, (obviously I love them) but they have not all been good! I owned 2 98's, one was a 32* version that worked great all the time, and the other was one that I put almost every upgrade available at the time into and it, and it "SUCKED"! Mag's are definately better looking (an opinion I'm sure I share with most AO members!) As far as ball breakage, I have experianced heavy ball breakage with either, but the 98 has to be split to clean when the breakage is bad. On the other hand with Mag's it's a piece of cake! Try a Mag, either you'll love it like "WE" do or you won't. It's easy to go back to a Tippmann!
AND ON THE 8TH DAY GOD CREATED THE AUTOMAG!!

Well let's see, mags have a much higer ROF, I have shot so many Tippmans and no crappy trigger job makes them as fast as Angels. Nice try, but no.

Mags are very reliable, and according to many people I know Tippmans so called great service sucks. I don't have to worry about my mag breaking because I know it won't, it's easy to find out everything about the marker.

I will never downgrade to a Tippman. I live my Mini.

And Tom Kaye made it .

Just get ahold of one and try it for a game or two. After you get the smile off your face, you'll have your decision. I own a 98 and probably won't ever get rid of it, as it's the most durable and reliable gun I've ever owned. It doesn't make me smile, but I know it will *always* work.

i dunno about a stock mag having a much higher ROF than my tippmann, i can rip about 7-8 bps with it. whats a mag? about 10 maybe? i dunno, ive never used one so i cant really say

u r forgetting tippmanns are known for there reliability.

i think everyone is forgetting im looking to buy a mag, i just want to know why. at the moment im debating between a minimag, rainmaker, and impulse.

We have to be careful saying to just go try out a mag at the field...because many of us come home to AO and write a post about how we had chopping problems or something. If he can get ahold of a correctly setup and maintained mag, you'd probably like it a lot! I own a mag...and have almost shot no other gun...and I feel like I don't need to! The mag gets the job done. I went to pevs today, and relaxed as the guy next to me was getting his autococker back from being serviced, appreciating the fact that I am a mag owner. When you get connected into it, the Mag group becomes a family. And since in many places mags tend to be rare, it's fun giving people the show with the Z-grip and meeting other Mag owners. It's an easy way to make real friends. Plus you get with a company that has incredible relations with it's customers, I mean, Tom posts on here almost every day. AGD is coming out with the coolest stuff, X-treme E-Mag with new millings( I held the new X-tremely milled Emag at Pev's today, OHHHH MAN!!!!! It's SOOOO nice, light, light blue and pretty) Anti chop eye(hidden), warp feed, trap door feed, Z-grip, Flatline, and other goodies.
I had to send my mag in to correct something that was partially my fault, and Jon got it, adjusted it, tested it, and sent it back out, no charge. And Jon is the raddest to talk to on the phone.

I have been so impressed with AGD and the service, I am definitely a life customer, but here is the point: I think paintball markers are a preference. I'd say, shoot a lot of mags(correctly setup too ) and if you still like them, check em out. I don't think we can prove it to you, you will simply have to go and find out for yourself, and if you like them, you will have the satisfaction of knowing your with the best

Ok, yes I have owned a Model 98 and I still have it. It was my first gun. now i have z-gripped r/t pro. lets just say i'd never go with another gun. the m98 is one of the heaviest, loudest, and most unaccurate guns. now i'm not saying they're bad, because they never chop, and barely break balls (i shot a case of seconds with 1 break). but the mag is so much better. the mags are more reliable then tippmanns. try putting your tippmann in water to clean it and see if it comes out ok. mags are much faster then m98. i don't care who you are, unless you have a trigger job, r/t trigger, or electro kit, you're not getting more then 6bps out of the m98. a stock automag classic can get like 10bps, and a stock r/t pro can get 13+bps. the stock barrel on the r/t pro is a good barrel for stock, and the AGD tech support knows what they are talking about. the tippmann tech support has no clue. when i go out to the field with my r/t pro, ppl will actually talk to me. no one called me a n00b the first time i took out my r/t pro. i'm guessing you never played a tourney before. you will get you *** kicked with a m98. hate to say it but it has no firepower. with any mag, you can get the paint down the field with accuracy and speed. snap shooting is the easiest thing in the world with the mag. i'm not bashing the m98, i loved mine, but mags are so much better. i'm guessing you're a n00b b/c it doesn;t seem like you've played hardcore at all.
