how exactly would one go about drilling the hole through the hopper? wont it ruin the internal paddles, or iterfere with their movement? and what would one use to do that, just a knife and cut it out, or actually take out a large drill bit?

I used a unibit to drill my hopper, it leaves a nice clean hole in the plastic. A unibit is a stepped bit used for sheet metal work, in case you have not seen one.
